ELSA TALOTTI Obituary

ELSA DINA TALOTTI (nee CUCCHIARO) May 15, 1931 - February 23, 2016 With great sadness, we announce Elsa's passing after a long and courageous battle. She will be dearly missed by her loving daughter Wanda, who was devotedly by her side. Beloved mother-in-law to Angelo Proestos and proud grandmother of Giorgio and Adrian. Elsa was born in Cavalicco in Friuli, Italy. She fearlessly immigrated to Toronto in 1956 seeking a better life with her husband Gino (predeceased 1988). She loved Canada but never forgot her roots and her family in Italy. She was an avid gardener, taking great pride in her roses and the annual harvest of herbs and vegetables. She loved to cook and could never stay too far away from the kitchen. Throughout her life she provided food for her family, on the farm in Friuli, during the occupation in World War II and while raising her family here in Canada. Elsa was a great influence on her grandsons passing along the Italian language and a deep appreciation for the cuisine of Friuli, including its polenta, wines, cheeses, grappa and gubana. She enjoyed pitching baseballs to them and batting with her cane, later turning into quite the Blue Jays fan. Elsa was a voracious reader, enjoyed opera, crafted beautiful quilts and recently learned to surf the net on her iPad. Family and friends will be received at Chapel Ridge Funeral Home, 8911 Woodbine Avenue, Markham (905-305-8508), on Friday, February 26th, from 5 - 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel on Saturday, February 27th, at 1 p.m. Interment to follow at Beechwood Cemetery, Vaughan.
