Emma Kathryn "Ruth" SHERIDAN

Emma SHERIDAN Obituary

SHERIDAN, Emma Kathryn "Ruth" - In her 90th year, passed away May 3, 2013 after a brief illness in Port Perry Hospital. Born September 10, 1923 to Olive and Edwin Foster, she married the Love of her Life, Norm Sheridan August 10, 1945. She worked with her father in his drug store, until she and Norm bought their own variety store which they owned and operated for nearly 20 years. She ended her working days as the executive floor-receptionist with Confederation Life. Widowed at 51, she was an inspiration to all, as she continued to live her life to the fullest. She drove a car from age 12-88, made the best butter tarts, devilled eggs and nuts n bolts. A huge support to the family, and our greatest cheerleader, she leaves behind her children: Lee Ayer (John), Kent Sheridan (Sue), grandchildren: Kerri Mossman (Derek), Brock MCNamara (Alyssa), Hunter, Skyler and Summer Sheridan, Joel Ayer (Nadina), predeceased by Matthew Ayer; great-grandchildren: Emily Ayer, Aidan McNamara, Harper Mossman and newborn Foster McNamara. She will be sorely missed by her only sister Joan Mactavish, niece Bonnie Mactavish (Bob Hunter), nephew Bruce Mactavish (Nancy), great-nieces, nephews and cousins. A celebration of her life will be held at St. John's United Church, 2 Nobert Road, Toronto at 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2013. Reception to follow in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ryde Lake Camp Box 1120, Gravenhurst, ON P1P 1V4 or a charity of your choice. Heartfelt thanks to the nurses and doctors who ensured that Ruth was kept comfortable in her last remaining days.

Lee, I am very sorry to learn of Ruth's passing. She was such a pleasant lady. As you will recall I was at Confed while she was there. Tried to make it to the celebration of Life today, but just couldn't swing it. Michael Smith

Sending love and prayers to all the Sheridan Family. I would so love to be "home" in Toronto right now so I could attend the Celebration of Life on Tuesday, at the church where I was raised, and first met Lee and Ruth. You are in my thoughts through this difficult time.

We just wanted to say, in lieu of flowers, Emma would have loved it if you we're to make a donation to Ryde Lake CGIT camp, whether it be to their camper fund of their volunteer builders fund. Ryde was the Sheridan home away from home and her legacy will always live on there.

While I never knew your mother well, I remember her graciousness at church and whenever we would meet.

A capable woman who can find?
She is far more precious than jewels.
