Florence Guy Obituary
September 13, 1947 - March 9, 2017
Florence died at sunrise on the morning of March 9th at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto. She is lovingly remembered by her partner of 41 years, Terry, her children Anthony (Yawen) and Madeleine (Mike), her grandchildren, Priscilla, Owen and Emma, her sisters Louise and Denyse, her brother Stewart and her dear friend Joanne Mackay-Bennett.
Florence was a wonderful example of what it means to be true to oneself. Her crystal clear intellect and compassionate sensibilities brought joy and inspiration to the people around her. She was an avid reader and brilliant cook who loved spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren.
Florence grew up in Quebec City and moved to Toronto in 1969. She dedicated her career to broadening opportunities for others; from teaching ESL and literacy to creating more accessible learning tools and programs. Since her retirement in 2014, she took several meaningful trips with Terry and just last summer, they enjoyed a trip to La Beauce in Quebec to delve more deeply into her family roots.
Florence was a unique and wonderful person. We will miss her warmth, her smile and her wit, but maybe most of all, her infectious laugh.
A visitation will be held at Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre, 375 Mount Pleasant Road (east gate entrance), on Friday, March 17th between 4 and 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 18th at 5 p.m. in the Chapel, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Princess Margaret Cancer Centre or Wellspring.

I am so very sorry to hear this. Florence was a lovely intelligent and engaging person. I met her through work meetings and she always had both a practical and compassionate approach. Condolences to her partner and family. I know she will be missed by many.

Florence was indeed a professional in her field. Her "story-telling" abilities and contagious enthusiasm inspired me to strive harder to serve those most vulnerable. My sincerest condolences to Florence's family and close friends. I had the honour of meeting Florence at my first interview within the OPS and her energy in that first meeting was very comforting and positive. During my brief meetings with Florence after, she was always so very warm, welcoming, kind and always took the time to stop and talk. You are missed Florence and may you rest in peace.

Florence will always be remembered fondly for her warmth and generosity of spirit, her inquiring mind and wit. She took a genuine interest in everyone she knew and had a wonderful rapport with Catherine as they both enjoyed the bond forged by being sister out-laws in the Montgomery clan. I had the privilege of working with Florence for a few months. She was a bright light in every meeting. She had such a positive outlook and passion for supporting learners from all walks of life. She will be missed dearly and remembered fondly.

We often spoke of the joy our grandchildren had brought to our lives. I am truly saddened to learn that Florence has passed away. I worked with Florence years ago and always enjoyed bumping into her on the Bay St bus where we would pick up as if no time had passed. Hi Terry and family,
I had the pleasure of having an office "across the aisle" from Florence for a long while. Many evenings after others had left for the day we chatted about life, family and the state of the world as we saw it. I laughed a lot, and I learned a lot!
