Francesca FIUME Obituary

FIUME, Francesca Maria (Fontana) Wife, Mother, Nonna lost her battle to dementia peacefully on Sunday, October 29, 2017, at Southlake Hospital in Newmarket. Born November 8, 1930 in Grimaldi, Italy, to Michele and Carmela Fontana. Sister to Vanda and Giuseppe. She made her journey on the Vulcania which docked in New York in August 7, 1953. Making her way to Toronto by train to meet her soon to be husband and love of her life Ettore Angelo Mario Fiume. The couple married on August 15, 1953 and resided in Toronto. They had six children. Maria along with her husband and children moved to Beaverton in 1971 in search of a new beginning after working many years on the night shift to help her husband provide for their children. Her dream along with her husband Mario was to be her own boss. Mario and Maria opened up The Italian Villa Restaurant. Maria loved not only to cook for her family but for the many customers who came through The Italian Villa door. Her home style Italian family cooking is still the talk of the town to this day in Beaverton. She continued her entrepreneurship with Mario by building the Goodview Motel/Restaurant on Osborne Street and the Osborne Plaza. She was a hard working woman and mother who always wanted to do the best for her children and husband. Survived by her six children Jean (Saverio), Mary (Rick), Joseph (Debbie), Michael (Mary), Anthony (Anna) and Teresa (John), as well as her 14 grandchildren: Rosmarie (Kevin), Nadia (Fortunato), Stephanie (Jeffery), Victoria (Robert), Jennifer (Justin), Steven, Bryan (Lindsay), Michael (Christina), Marc (Andrea), Amanda (Brandon), Christina, Anthony, Jessica and Joshua and 15 great-grandchildren. Maria a dedicated Mother and Nonna will be sadly missed. Friends and Family will be received at Mangan Funeral Home (705-426-5777), 332 Osborne Street, Beaverton, Ontario, on Wednesday, November 1st from 1:00 to 3:30 and 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral Mass on Thursday, November 2nd at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 573 Simcoe Street, Beaverton. Entombment to follow in Orillia at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Francesca Maria's memory to the Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County (please mark with Seniors Care Clinic on the memo line).
