FRANK ADDARIO Obituary

FRANK ANTHONY ADDARIO Died while visiting Apollo Beach, Florida, on February 14, 2014, in his 93rd year. Born on December 14, 1921, to parents Concetta (Albanese) and Annunziato Addario. Frank is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Eleanor, and by six children: Martin (Letizia), Susan (David Farrar), Connie (Joseph Arvay), Frank (Heidi Rubin), Lisa, and Andrea (Patchen Barss), by fifteen grandchildren (Jaime, Robert, Nora, Audrey, Louigi, Hannah, Carmen, Gina, Marial, Nate, Julius, Amos, Rosa, Abe and Isaac), two great-grandchildren (Sol and Francesca), his sister Teresa Pelini and her children Gregory and Cynthia, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Helen Addario. He was educated at the University of Toronto, where he earned a Masters of Arts. A longtime multilingual teacher of romance languages and later school principal, superintendent and trustee, Frank loved baseball, language, puns, music and learning. He and Eleanor were seasoned world travellers. At various points in his life he played the violin and the banjo, but following his retirement he returned to playing the mandolin with the Mandolin Orchestra of Niagara. He was a skilled and meticulous man. He was modest and understated. He could play bridge, change a tire, fix a broken sink, tie a perfect Windsor knot, carve a beautiful fruit platter, and tell you exactly what he and Eleanor did on their first date (they went to see Nellie Lutcher). After working in Huntsville, Ontario in the early years of their marriage, Frank and Eleanor made their life in Welland, the town to which Frank's family emigrated from San Giorgio Morgeto, Italy. He was a loyal Welland booster, serving on the boards of several local institutions. He was proud of his Italian-Canadian heritage, fiercely proud of his children and grandchildren, and deeply in love with Eleanor, saying often that marrying her was the smartest decision of his life. His gentle, kind manner will be missed by all who knew him. A funeral will be held in Welland at St. Kevin's Church, 307 Niagara Street, on Saturday, February 22nd at 10 a.m. Visitation will be held at J.J. Patterson and Sons Funeral Home, 19 Young Street, on Friday, February 21st from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Donations in memory of Frank to the Welland Hospital Foundation or to St. Kevin's Church Memorial Fund would be appreciated.

Dear Eleanor and Family,
It is with heavy heart that Marilyn and I read of Frank's passing in the Toronto Star. Unfortunately, we shall not be able to attend the church service since we are presently in New York city visiting our son Paul and family.
Although Frank will no longer be with us physically, please rest assured, dear Eleanor, that he will always be with us in our hearts and our minds.

Dear Mrs. Addario, Martin and family, I am very sorry and pained at your loss. You, Mrs. Addario, your husband and family members were like a second family to me growing up and well into adulthood. My sympathies to all, Gary McMahon
