Frank Fielder Obituary

FRANK FIELDER In his 88th year, died peacefully at home with his family by his side on September 23, 2008. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Shirley, his children Steven, Susan and her husband Garry, and Randy and his partner Sarah; grandchildren Lee and Dan; predeceased by sister Lillian and survived by sisters Thora, Mae, Gwen, Mary and Velma. He will be missed by his two best friends, Golden Retrievers Chelsea and Eagle. Frank was an instructor in the Armoured Corps in the Canadian Armed Forces, and had a strong attachment to Holland, where he participated in its liberation in 1945. He owned an automotive business in Toronto, but wanting a little place where they could eventually retire, Frank and Shirley purchased a piece of land near Coldwater, ON in 1965 and built what is now the beautiful Bonaire Golf Course. He was so proud on the day he cut the ribbon at the special Island hole, completing the third nine, and he often remarked that he never envisioned Bonaire becoming so beautiful and well liked by all who golfed there. During his life, his senses of humour and adventure were infectious-he was an avid skier, golfer, flyer of his home-built planes, and at heart always a traveller. He was also pleased and very proud to have recently received his 50 year pin as a Shriner. The family would like to thank the Department of Veterans' Affairs for their tremendous support during his final years, also Dr. Bhatt and Diane Campbell at Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Orillia, Heart Function Clinic, for their incredible, compassionate care and attention over the past several years. As well, we thank Heather and Stephanie, the attending caregivers from Bayshore Community Services, for helping to make Dad's final days peaceful, and a special thank you to Amy from Bayshore, for being with us right to the end. Our family is especially grateful to Mary Ann and the dedicated staff at Bonaire for their love of Frank, and all their efforts on his behalf. We are also indebted to the many family and friends who helped make Frank and Shirley's recent 65th wedding anniversary such a happy time. A celebration of Frank's life will be held on Sunday October 5th, 2008 from 12 noon-4 p.m. at Bonaire Golf Course, Coldwater, ON. In lieu of flowers, donations to Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Orillia or to the charity of your choice would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West St. N., Orillia. Online messages of sympathy can be left at www.mundellfuneralhome.com. Frank worked hard and lived a long life, and he left his little corner of the world a much, much better place!

I was very sorry to hear that Uncle Frank passed away. Over the years he has been a wonderful, wonderful man full of life. He will be missed when we all get together.
Our last time together was at the anniversary party and he was having a great time seeing everyone.
My thoughts are with his family, sisters and the rest of the gang.
