Two things Vicki said about her dad Frank reflect parts of who he was in ways I found moving and inspiring. One was about how after Vicki was born prematurely and her mom had to go home without her. For many weeks, her dad came in early every morning before work, on the very long streetcar ride to hospital and back to bring Dorene's
breast milk to Vicki.
The other was- one day in the midst of midwifery legislation politics, we were talking with 2 lawyers who asserted that health professionals needed to have a unique understanding of responsibility for people's safety. Vicki said " My father is a car mechanic and he has said that he knows every time he fixes brakes on someone's car, he holds responsibility for their life and safety. He understands and acts with responsibility for human life in his work as much as a doctor in theirs."
With respect,
To Frank and the Van Wagner family,
My condolences, Holliday
