Frederick Harris Obituary

FREDERICK GRAINGER HARRIS Born in Windsor, ON, January 14, 1947. Passed away peacefully on September 4, 2010, with his family by his side, after a courageous battle with cancer. Fred was a devoted husband to Paula and beloved father of Rachel, Rebecca and Michael. Dear father-in-law of Chris Djarmocky, Garth Jackson and Apryl Harris (nee Robichaud). Loving Zaida to Luke and two grandchildren on the way. Fred was predeceased by his parents Frederick and Irene Harris and will be sadly missed by his sister Margaret and brother-in-law Art Latimer and aunt Margaret Roddy and Don Roddy. He will also be missed by his nieces and nephews Matthew Nelson, Lisa Mogg, Lindsey Thornton and Shaun Jones, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Debbie and Al Thornton, as well as many friends and neighbours. Fred was a graduate of Kennedy High School and spent more than 35 years in the photo business. He was a devoted family man who will be remembered for his positive outlook, generous spirit and belief that we should follow our hearts and be true to ourselves. He was kind to everyone he met and loved to make people laugh. Always and to the end, Fred believed the world is inherently good and though his passing leaves a huge hole in our lives, we will carry on his belief. As an expression of sympathy, a donation to the Windsor/Essex County Humane Society would be appreciated, as Fred was an animal lover. A memorial to celebrate Fred's life will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to the WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOMES LTD. (BANWELL CHAPEL), 11677 Tecumseh Rd. E., Windsor, ON 519-253-7234.

Dear Paula, Rachel, Rebecca and Michael,

My cousin Fred became the older brother I never had. He was a very kind, wise, hard working man with an unlimited love for his family. He also had compassion for his fellow man and of course any injured animal or creature. Possibly the most generous man I have ever met, in so many ways. Fred was a good and gifted listener. He also knew his craft. He had a unique gift of humour and warmth and could always get the most of a subject through a camera lens. Not an easy thing to do. He was a master and a mentor.
We shared many good times over the past several years and 'Freddie Grainger The Photo Ranger' will always have a special place in my heart.
He was so strong and so determined. You all took such good care of him when he was fighting so hard.
I know Fred is now at peace. I also know that Fred would want everyone to remember the humorous, zany antics of 'The Fred' and the many GREAT times shared over many years.

Thinking of you, Barry and Lou-Anne and all of our 'Clan'.

To the Harris Family
Our deepest sympathies go out to you. We can attest to Fred's love of animals being the former owners of Precious Pet Supplies. He would come into the store and get down on his hands and knees and play with our dogs. He had me knit sweaters for his dog. Another really good man has left our world for a better place.

I will always remember Uncle Fred, the time I pants him in the middle of the street. The pantsing took place at one of Debbie's family get together that I know we all loved....NOT! I still every now and then just start laughing thinking about that day. Fred was one funny man!!! He always looked at the zany side of life and I will never forget him for that. To the Harris crew my love and sympathy.

Hang tight, be strong as I know you guys are.

Loads of love!!!

Iam really sorry to hear about Fred. Ill always remember Fred as coach 'Derf' who made baseball fun to play. Who else but Fred would rent his team a limo to take us to the final game? He often piled a bunch of us in the back of his silver wagon and treated us to Slinkys out of his own pocket. Those were great times and I feel fortunate to have grown up down the road from the family to be a part of several more good times.
My sincere condolences to Pauline, Mike, Rebecca and Rachel. I hope you all find comfort in the laughs and good times Fred brought with him wherever he went.

To the Harris Family.
I first met Fred when Pauline had her first child. He hired me to help this first time mother, then later asked me to work at the photo shop where I spent many wonderful years. He treated us all like family, a very caring and gentle man.
May God bless you and your family during this time of sorrow. He will always live forever in your hearts.
