I was deeply saddened to have heard so very late after Mr C's passing. I was a student at Danforth Tech many years ago where I was fortunate enough to study under Mr C. He and I became very good friends and I have many fond memories. Mr C was the reason I continued to study music and my high school years would not have been the same. His inspiration has lived on in my life and I think of him often. My thoughts and prayers, although so late after his loss, are with Violet and his family.

Mr. C was a major influence in my life and in the life of many of my fellow students. I didn't choose a career path in music, but the lessons I learned from him I carry with me everywhere I go.
The image I will keep with me is of him wandering off mid-piece during a performance... just to be a part of the audience and let us do our thing! He always gave us confidence by having confidence in us. That spurred us on to encourage one another and push ourselves to do better.
He will certainly not be forgotten.

As a first cousin of Gary and having known his father Cecil and mother Mamie I received word of Gary's passing from a cousin in Toronto.
Our sincere condolences to Vi whom we have never met. As I read tributes to his life, my rememberance of his musical ability came back;although, we have not met in 25 years.
May he rest in peace.

Mr C was the greatest influence in my teens...a wonderful music teacher, friend and shoulder to lean on...my own son is now in his high school band, as I passed my love of music, so much due to Mr C, along to him. I'm so grateful to have had him in my life.

Mr C the man who pushed me to play multiple instruments and realize my potential. He was one of the my teachers that I think about when I want inspiration for my classes. He has left his mark on so many of us, that he may be gone but the legacy he left us still lives.

I share in all the tributes to Gary. We taught together at Northern and he taught my children as well. He knew how to teach. When my son Jordan showed promise in playing the trumpet, Gary found a second hand beauty for him.
Gary and I would go for lunch at the Chicken Deli and we would laugh together. I always thought how wonderfully wise and funny he was. He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.

How sad to hear of "Mr.C's" passing. I have many fond memories of him and his humour in the 'music hall' at Tech. His passion for music, his dedication to teaching and passing that passion on to to me is something I will never forget. He taught me to always do more than my best. Thanks to him I have passed that passion on to my children who have heard my stories of my favorite music teacher ever. You will be missed Mr.C, may you continue your passion wherever you are.

Mr. Cameron was my first mentor, an inspirational teacher who believed in my ability and taught me to believe in myself. He pushed me to follow my dreams; my first trip to New York City he got me a spot in front of Jim McNeely at the Village Vanguard. 5 years later I was happy resident of New York City, gainfully employed at the legendary jazz label Verve Music Group. Thank you Mr. Cameron.

My best memories of high school rest with you, Mr. Cameron. You were an inspirational teacher and most of all a great guy who we all respected. Pretty soon I'll be teaching my new son the trombone, passing down the many lessons that I learned from you. Matt Yanchyshyn (NSS 1998)

Mr. Cameron was such an amazing character and it was a privilege to have been influenced by him while growing up. I learned to appreciate music that much more because of him and will always be reminded of him when treated with the pleasant sounds of life.

Mr. Cameron was the greatest teacher I ever had. The joy, collaboration and hard work he fostered in his students was amazing to behold. I am profoundly grateful for the time I had in his bands, for both his lessons and his humour. He was inspirational to me, and to many, and beloved by his students. Thank you, Sir. With love and condolences from the Lockwoods - Noah (NSS 2000), Sarah (NSS 1996), Kathryn, and David

Dear Mrs. Cameron: We are so saddened to hear of Gary's passing. Our father, Peter Cordell will miss his weekly lunches at 'Swiss Chalet' as well as the many happy memories from their band days. Kyle, Peter's grandson was very saddened. Gary provided Kyle with his very first sax at an early age and Kyle became a wonderful muscian thanks to Gary. Our love and deepest condolences to you from all of the Cordell family.

Very sorry to hear of Gary's passing. I worked with him at Danforth Tech. He always had such a great sense of humour and when we played in a swing band, at the break, I would tease him about the hockey score which he didn't want to hear until he got home. Take care, David Marshall

Gary's promotion to the big band up above was a total shock. Gary was a great musician and having played next to him in the Royals was always a treat. We had a great road trip together through England in 1981 after the Wembly tattoo - certainly one of my personal high points in the UK. He will missed by all and my sympathies to you with his passing.

Dear Vi,

Words cannot express the great shock and sorrow we felt on learning of Garth's passing. I'm sure that you will take great solace in knowing how much he will be missed by his many friends in the Royals, the Encore Band and his many other musical endeavours. His warm, generous, sincere manner will be recalled every time we play one of his fine arrangements. I am so sorry that we will not be able to pay tribute to Garth in person, as we are visiting our son and daughter-in-law in North Carolina.

Riding the tandem with Vi, Niagara Falls visits, taking us to the CN Tower, having fish and chips, watching the Maple Leafs and acting as kids at theme parks. Lots of great memories. (And let’s not forget Bill and Vi who always loved your visits)
You will be sadly missed Garth.
