Gary INNESS Obituary

INNESS, Gary George It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Gary Inness in his 72nd year at Grove Park Home (in Barrie) on February 23, 2021. Beloved husband of Kathy who was by his side. Cherished Dad of Chad (Danielle) and Heather. "Gramps" will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Alexander, Everly, Addison and Ethan. Gary was predeceased by his parents, James and Janet Inness and his brothers David and Jimmy. He is fondly remembered by his sister-in-law Patricia (Bernie) and brothers-in-law Robert Fleming (Karen) and John Fleming (Michaele) and his six nieces and nephews. Gary will be greatly missed by his aunt and cousins in the U.K., Australia and family in Oakville. Gary led a full life, beginning with a close relationship with his boyhood buddies who were all heavily involved in sports and shared the same commitment for further education. The five years at McMaster University and University of Toronto had many accomplishments and memories. Gary had the good fortune to experience a stint in professional hockey before a return to Ontario to take up what was always in the plan - a career in education. He enjoyed many years of teaching and coaching at Barrie North Collegiate and was blessed with a strong staff and excellent administrators. Gary was passionate about his family, the cottage and his pets. Much gratitude is extended to the Grove Park Home staff and in particular to the nurses and PSWs on "Pine" unit for their care and compassion in these last years. A private family cremation is planned. A celebration of Gary's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the SPCA, Grove Park Home or a charity of your choice. To share a memory or leave a condolence, please visit steckleygooderham.com

Gary was a great teacher and a great mentor. He taught me in 2 classes over the years at North. When I think back to a teacher that I had upmost respect for it was always Mr Inness.
My sincerest condolences to the family, and Gary changed many many lives...

Please pass on my condolences to Gary's family. I had the great privilege of playing along side Gary in 1971 with the McMaster Marauder football team. One great "team" guy and an exceptional leader!

I played beside Gary on the McMaster football team in 1971. I had tremendous respect for his athleticism and competivenous. He also had a great sense of humor. The last time I saw him was when he was playing hockey for Indianapolis. His team came to Houston to play the Aeros. We got together after the game for a drink. I am very saddened by his death.

Sincere condolences to the Inness family and all friends.Incredible accomplishments...both academic and athletic,by a genuine man of modesty ,quickly recognized by all who knew him.We patrolled the line of scrimmage from both sides together..back in the sixties,at Alderwood Collegiate..and loved every minute of it..great memories
We learned from coach Dick Howe valuable life lessons..personal integrity and perseverance, and Gary was able to then to pass that on...can,t get better than that. R.I.P.....truly deserved.
