Gary NYSTROM Obituary

NYSTROM, Gary Eric The Nystrom family is devastated to announce Gary's passing on June 16, 2020, after a long battle with prostate cancer. He leaves behind his wife of 43 years Pat (nee Barclay), his son Daniel (Debbie) and his daughter Devon (Ian). Proud Papa to Nicholas, Alexis and Garrett. He joined the North York fire department in 1972 and retired as a Captain with 35 years of service. He was extremely proud that both Danny and Devon followed in his footsteps. He got hooked on rowing as a teenager at the Fort William (Thunder Bay) Rowing Club and in his 50s participated in the Masters rowing with the Toronto Argonaut Rowing Club. He loved hockey and was president of the Southern Ontario Firefighter's Hockey League. He also spent years as an executive of the North York Retired Firefighters Association. A memorial will be planned at a later date. "The memories bring back memories bring back you"

My deepest sympathies to the family and also to the friends who remained connected to Gary as he was on his life journey. We rowed together at the Fort William Rowing Club, back in late '50's, early '60's and although it was only a few years, I remember him as a dedicated person willing to buckle down and help others in attained the mutually desired goals.

"Easy all", .. Gary!

Thinking of you Pat. My deepest sympathy to you and your family. I know it has been a long hard road and Gary struggled to stay with us as long as he could. He never wanted you to have to take care of him. We always had a good time together and I remember with a smile the birthday parties, Super Bowl Parties, back yard BBQ's... you both were wonderful hosts. I do hope your good memories will help you through this very sad time. God Bless. You are in my heart. Gary has gone to join some of the good ones for sure.

My deepest sympathy to family and friends on the passing of Gary. I have fond memories of growing up in Thunder Bay and attending regattas he and my brother, Allan, participated in. His kind and caring demeanour made him very special. Our paths did cross over the years and his love for his family and friends was front and centre. Rest In Peace, Gary. ❤
