As a retired Scarborough Elementary Principal, I have wonderful memories of George. He was a mentor and friend to all who worked and associated with him.
He was a true friend too everyone associated with the Scarborough Board of Education.
He was a "fatherly gentleman" who could be counted on to offer advice and a joke or two to all fellow educators throughout his many years with the S.B.E.
He will be missed, but also remembered by all.

I too want to offer my sincere sympathy to the family of George Barret. I was so sorry to hear of his passing. He was the only principal I knew through my elementary school years at Warden Ave. Because of George and the many wonderful teachers under his charge, I too became a teacher and subsequently, a principal.
Two years ago I had the pleasure of a long chat with George at our annual Christmas luncheon for retired principals. I will always remember him with great fondness and respect. We have lost a wonderful man.

Mr. Barrett ( and that was the way we knew him in the 60's) set the bar for class and integrity as a school principal. Many of his 'rookies' (myself included) became principals with his model in mind. He was one of the best.

We extend our sincere sympathy to the family and friends of George Barrett. I knew both George and Verna in Agincourt and Knox United Church where my father was the minister from 1947 to 1958. During that time I sang in the church choir with Verna.
I regret that I didn't know about the passing of Verna in 2008. I am retired from the Scarborough Board of Education so heard of George's passing through that communication. We know that they will both be greatly missed by everyone who loved and knew them.
