GEORGE COOPER Obituary

GEORGE DOUGLAS COOPER, P. ENG. Peacefully on Sunday, February 23, 2014 surrounded by his family at Oakville- Trafalgar Memorial Hospital in his 81st year. Beloved husband to the late Ann Cooper (1998) and dearest companion to Helen Goggin. Loving father to Donald (Deanna), Mary (Andrew), Sean (Barb) and Penny (Don). Loving Papa to Bruce and fiancée Carolyn, Eric, Greg, Joshua, Justin, Joseph, Tausha and André and great- grandson Jackson. Dear brother to Marilyn (Allan), Nancy, Jackie and Butch (Margaret). Dear brother-in-law of Jean and Dave Hill. Predeceased by his parents Douglas and Evelyn Cooper. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Burloak Long Term Care for the care that he received there. Also, thank you to the staff on the Palliative Care Unit at OTMH for their kind and gentle care of our very caring and loving dad. Doug was a Professional Engineer for over 45 years and began his career in the aircraft industry designing engine components on the AVRO Arrow project. His career as a design engineer progressed into tank vessel design in the petrochemical industry and then ultimately to CANDU nuclear reactor design with Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL). Doug retired from AECL after 27 years of service but continued to work as a consultant as a Senior Codes Engineer. His volunteer contributions to the Canadian Standards Association and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers were awarded with their highest honours. He was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church and served on many committees as an elder, board member and Superintendent of the Sunday school. Doug enjoyed gardening, travelling, the outdoors and his family. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and colleagues. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Rd. W., Oakville (one block east of Kerr St., 905-844-2600), from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, March 2, 2014. A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 3, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Knox Presbyterian Church, 89 Dunn St. (Lakeshore Rd E. and Dunn St., Oakville); reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada and/or the Knox Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund. Condolences through www.koprivataylor.com
