GEORGE McCLEARY Obituary

McCLEARY, GEORGE RICHARD Peacefully passed away, in Toronto, on Sunday, February 20, 2022, at age 93. George was a loving husband to Leta Iris (nee Lowes) for more than 74 years. He was a caring father to Margaret Anne, Darlene Braybrook (Rick), Linda Prior (Lynn) and devoted grandfather to Michael, Jennifer (Daniel), Christopher and Bradley. He will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews. George's enthusiasm for politics led him to becoming a trustee, and eventually Chairman of the North York and Metropolitan Toronto School Boards. Although George enjoyed success in the business world, his true life passion was spending time and making memories with family and friends. His love for boating and time spent at the cottage and in Florida often centered around opportunities to spend quality time with loved ones. George will be fondly remembered for his wit and knack for telling great stories that kept those around him laughing. The family would like to thank the staff on 11 South at Mt. Sinai Hospital for their care and compassion. A visitation will be held at the Marshall Funeral Home, 10366 Yonge Street, Richmond Hill, on Wednesday, February 23rd, from 2-5 p.m. To attend the visitation, you must register online at www.marshallfuneralhome.com. Select the RSVP button in George's obituary page. Masks and vaccines are mandatory, and please adhere to social distancing protocols in the chapel. The funeral service is private, by invite only. Dear Leta and Family,
It has been a long time since we've been in touch, but I wanted to reach out and let you know how sorry I am to have just learned of the passing of George.
George and I first met when he was a client of the Bank and I was his account manager. I grew very fond of George. He was extremely kind to me and became someone I very much admired and respected. I wish you all well.
