I worked at MCAP with George but we did not work "together"; rather we became unlikely friends who shared interests in politics (from different perspectives), sports, music and comedy. We had long conversations on company time which did include company business (I was Communications Director and George taught me about commercial mortgages and what motivated his group in what they did) but usually veered off into soccer (his love). NFL football (mine) and elsewhere. The two of us took in a taping of the CBC Radio comedy show The Debaters and a lecture by Gwynne Dyer on the geopolitical implications of anthropogenic climate change. George was never unhappy it seemed and was a great friend, mentor and colleague to all at MCAP.

My sincerest condolences to the Mejury family and all those close to George. He coached his nephew, Chris, and I when we were teenagers. On a weekly basis, he spent more than half the practice just taking shots on me- aiming perfectly to the corners. I wasnt the most intimidating goalies by appearance (skinny, glasses and braces) but I became a shotstopping wall from his work. To no surprise, his nephew and I were both picked up by the same rep team after just a few months under his tutelage lol. I got to go to my first TFC game thanks to him and his nephew. Thankfully I got to see him many years later at his nephews wedding. I think it took awhile before someone pointed out i was the same kid he coached many years before. Managed to share a quick drink with him before going back to my girlfriend, now wife, and got his nod of approval- something had me smiling for the rest of the night.
My biggest regret is that I didnt say thank you as it didnt cross my mind that I wouldnt see him again. Thankfully his nephew and I are still friends to this date and that's not changing. No surprise to see the suggestion for donating to the Dero foundation is his honor inlieu of a funeral. He will be missed.

To the Mejury family,
We send our heartfelt thoughts to all of you at this time. We have wonderful memories of times together with mutual friends.
Allison, he was so proud of you! Do you remember the time he convinced you to play for all of us in your backyard during a house party your parents hosted, because his daughter was the "most talented daughter ever". LOL We do! And we were great!
And Angela, he loved you deeply. He once whispered in Leanne´s ear, at one of the Robertson´s earlier house parties that it was his goal every party to see how many eye rolls he could get from you, so he could match them with kisses. LOL
We will miss his stories, his laugh and how much he loved to tease us all. Dave and I will never forget the dinner party in Oakville when he coined the term "Frenchy McFrench pants" as we were talking about Allison travelling to France. All of us laughed so hard over that.
We send our love to you all, and thank you for sharing him with us. He will be missed. He was such a special man! From Leanne ("Cookie") and Dave Rathbone
