GEORGE PROCTOR Obituary

GEORGE EDWARD MILES (TED) PROCTOR 1922 - 2012 Ted passed peacefully after a short illness, being active into his 90th year, driving his car, visiting his fish camp in August and completing the daily Sudoku challenge. He is survived by his wife Phyllis, children John, Joyce and Debbie as well as grandchildren Sasha, Robin, Bronwyn, Corrine and Natalie. He will be greatly missed by his buddies Bernie, Dunc, Rick, Ron, Jack and friends Gus, Dave, Natalie and Jo-Anna who have wonderful memories of time together at his beloved fishing camp at Lac des Sables (Sand Lake) in Caughnawana, QC. Ted was a graduate of MCGill University in civil engineering and served as senior partner, president, and chairman of the firm Proctor and Redfern which was active in the development of many municipalities throughout Ontario and Eastern Canada. He also served as President of the Association of Consulting Engineers of Canada. Golf was a huge part of Ted's life and he belonged to clubs in Thornhill, Muskoka and Sawgrass, FL. Ted spent 80 years vacationing at the family cottage at Proctor's Point on Lake Joseph, Muskoka which infused in him a deep love of nature and the Canadian Shield. He was an avid aviator, flying all over North America for 45 years in his amphibious Cessna. Thank you to all his caregivers and friends at Sunrise Retirement Home. A memorial service will be held this Sunday, December 2nd at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery Visitation Centre, 375 Mt. Pleasant Rd., Toronto at 10:00 a.m.

I purchased Ted's 185 airplane and still own it. Ted took me for a circuit in Buttonville and I could tell he was sad to have the plane up for sale. After I purchased the airplane the broker gave me a picture of the plane with the hand written inscription from Ted "good bye old friend". I still carry that picture in the 185.

A short meeting with Ted left a profound memory. Mike Neumannn

I was one of Ted's fellow employees and I went fishing with Ted and Don Redfern, his partner, at his northern Quebec camp after flying there in his plane.
Ted never took himself too seriously.
Ted told me this story about himself.

One day his Newfoundland office manager, Sean O'Rafferty, was waiting in St.Johns' airport and a person he knew asked him why he was there because no commercial airliners were expected. Sean replied "I'm waiting for my boss to fly in his own plane from Toronto" .."Well that must be some wealthy firm you work for"...Sean replied.. "It is not just any firm that could afford a playboy Partner".
