I am deeply saddened to know Mr. Shepherd has passed away. I was an office staff at Jarvis Collegiate an I felt honoured to have known Mr. Shepherd Head of Men´s Physical Education, Mr. Shepherd faced many challenges as a Head of Physical Education, but looking back, he was the perfect person for that particular department. He was always one on the front line to clear the fields when the helicopter landed with patients for the Wellesley burnt unit. He had safety measures in place for the safety of the students both on and off the fields. He cared so much for students, he met with Ben Wicks at the Red Lion pub where he and Mr. Ben Wicks produced many booklets for Safety and Drug awareness. These booklets were distributed to the Toronto District School Board for students. I am ever so grateful for that eye opener. Mr. Shepherd was an angel who looked over us. May god keep you in his loving arms. My condolences to your family.

We have lost two giants of the Ontario sports community with the passing of George and his longtime Jarvis and CNE colleague Marv Pearl. Both will be missed but not forgotten. Condolences to Betty and the entire Shepherd family.

A man of few words, except when it came to jokes. We enjoyed dinners with George and Betty at Janis's (my sisters place). He would always say to me, "come and sit here". I told him, "if you tell me one more joke that I have heard, I will take you downtown to a bar for a drink and you have to wear a dress". He started his joke and Betty was quick to interject, "Oh No, have you heard this one" . He remained in pants for the many years that I had the privilege of his friendship. You will be missed my many, you touched many lives and made then better.

We loved George. Met him 64 years ago through track. Ran with him for years at East York Track Club. Skied with him at Devil´s Glen, Mt Ste Anne and Austria. Joked with him everywhere, admired him always.
He was lucky in love with Betty. A great loss. Love from Vernon, BC.

George, you were an icon in track. You mentored me at East York in your favourite 400 hurdles. You sent the famous group of the Jarvis 4 to Western to remind me daily of you for 4 years. You always had a joke for me before I could say hello. You were an influence in my coaching career. Thank you for the privilege of being a friend.

George was a gem, polished at times and rough around the edges at times but he never failed to be a friend. I spent many hours with George at track and field meets and even more on the Athletics Ontario Hall of Fame Committee. His "words of wisdom" were always appreciated.
My thoughts are with you Betty and family. Treasure those memories.
RIP George.
