Gerald Hillier Obituary

GERALD STANLEY HILLIER 86, at Halton Hills Health Centre, Georgetown, Friday, October 8, 2010 from pneumonia following a mild stroke, cradled in the love of family around him. Gerald was so many wonderful things to so many people. A gentle man whose kindness knew no bounds. A quiet hero to his children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Unfailingly interested in everyone he met. A geography and history whiz. A proud oldest brother. Tim Horton's aficionado. A brilliant mind, a stalwart friend, a dependable neighbour and - always - the epitome of love. Born February 19, 1924 in High Beach, Newfoundland to Stanley and Jessie (nee Ayers) Hillier. Predeceased by devoted and adored daughter Pat Guy. An unfathomable loss for his wife Amelia, daughters Lorraine (husband Duncan) Green and Heather (husband Wayne) Green, son-in-law Martin Guy, grandchildren Michelle (husband Brian) Postill, Jennifer (husband Stuart) Wallace, Alexander, Brittany, Joshua, Davis and Samantha Green, and great-grandchildren Christopher, Jacob and Shelby Postill and Katie and Gavin Wallace. Sadly missed by sisters Rosalie Hillier, Doris (husband Fred) Pittman and Sheila (husband Dave) Crocker, brother Norman (wife Ruby) Hillier, and sisters-in-law Effie Hillier and Ruth Lafleche, plus nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brother Raymond Hillier sister-in-law Evelyn Hillier and brothers- in-law William Hillier and George Lafleche. Proudly employed at Canada Packers for more than 30 years and a long-standing member of St. Paul the Apostle Anglican Church in Rexdale. Visitation at J.S. Jones Funeral Home at 11582 Trafalgar Road in Georgetown on Friday, October 15 at 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral on Saturday, October 16 at 11 a.m. at St. George's Anglican Church at 60 Guelph Street in Georgetown, followed by interment and reception at Meadowvale Cemetery at 7732 Mavis Road in Brampton. Donations to the Anglican Church of Canada or World Vision appreciated. Thanks to Reverends Paul Ivany and Rob Park, the staff of Southbrook Retirement Community and the gentle and loving nurses of the Complex Continuing Care unit at Georgetown Hospital.
