Edward King
July 4, 2014
I first met Gerry in 1953 and we kept contact until somewhere in the 1990's. I had an ole phone number and lost contact after he moved to Oshawa. I was very sorry to hear of his death. I had tried earlier to contact him this year. Edward King. I knew Lorraine and his brother Denis but not his children.

I was a new principal when I worked with him and found him to be a very helpful ally to students and to me with an unbiased approach to the solution of problems. He was one of the stalwarts of the school board and was always willing to give help when it was needed. Thanks for a job well done. Rest in peace. Henrietta Daniel.

Dear Gerarda, Olivia and Sylvia, Hearing of the loss of your father saddens me deeply. Gerry was one of my closest friends from when he hired me in 1968 to work for his Child Development Services. Besides professional interests, your father and I shared a love of social activities, music and our Irish heritage. I remember fondly attending many great social events in your home and enjoying the company of your mother Lorraine and all of you as children. I continue to be astounded by the many events that occurred in your father's life that were paralleled in my own. Gerarda, Olivia and Sylvia, I am so sorry for your loss. Your father was one of those unique individuals who always emphasized the positive side of life and encouraged us all to enjoy all good things in life. May you find strength in his legacy of optimism and caring. - Jim Sweeney

Dear Gerarda, Olivia, Sylvia & the Stokes family:
Our sincere condolences & deepest sympathy on the loss of your dear Father. But there should be some Joy in that fact that Gerry is free from all pain & earthly frustrations & is now sharing the happiness of being together with your Mother his beloved Lorraine!
Gerry was well loved by all who knew him, & he has had a lasting effect in touching the lives of so many of those with whom he worked: from students, to teachers, principals, administrators, social workers, psychologists & various representatives of the multinational communities & parents groups within Metro Toronto.
Gerry was a very humble, caring, & truly devout Christian Humanist. who also lived with a deep sense of purpose, & love of his own family, flavoured by his wicked Irish humour.
He was in the biblical sense "a man without guile" & a true "Gentle Man". Sadly we shall not see his like again. Requiescat in Pace!
May God's "Amazing Grace" be with you all during the difficult days ahead. Love, Blessings & Hugs.

Dear Geri, Sylvia and Olivia, We are sad to see your Dad leave us but just think of the rewards in heaven! I grew up with him as a mentor and my brother in law and as an adult I enjoyed sipping Irish Whisky on the deck and hearing him laugh and enjoy family times. My husband called him friend and together they had many spirited talks. Just think about your parents right now in heaven ... Lorraine has the red wine out, the roast is almost done and the candles are lit. Raise a glass and send them our love. Aunt Georgette and Uncle Richard

Erica and family. God bless you in your time of sorrow. Sending love and prayers.
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.
