GLEN MAY Obituary

GLEN G. MAY 1937 - 2016 He relinquished life reluctantly. Glen lived the retired lifestyle joyously; spending his days reading, gardening, dining, attending theatre, playing golf and following sports, whether here or in Florida. With his wife Nancy (nee Sibbald) by his side, he travelled extensively. Glen began his career as Sports Editor at the Oakville Daily Journal, later becoming the Sports Editor at United Press International for their western readership. He returned to Ontario to join the Toronto Telegram in syndication and as a Sports Columnist until the paper closed. In 1972 he joined Carlson Marketing in the incentive sales department, where he remained until retirement. Always an active member of his community, Glen was recognized for his exceptional contribution to the Markland Wood Homeowners Association. He was on the executive of the Bluewater Shoreline Ratepayers Association and joined the Board of Directors at the Niagara-on the-Lake Golf Club. Glen will be remembered as the Coach of the Colts football team in Oakville and Etobicoke, an initiative of his making. Coach May influenced and offered wise council to daughters Susan O'Brien of Toronto and Kimberly Switnicki (Barry) of Vancouver Island. He embraced the Sibbald clan. His wife Nancy will deeply miss his presence, his love and his constant companionship. Interment in the May family plot, Park Lawn Cemetery, Toronto. A Celebration of Life will take place in The Cellar at the Old Winery Restaurant, 2228 Niagara Stone Road in Niagara- on-the-Lake on August 3rd from 2-4 p.m.

Glen was my first football coach. I was 9 with the Colts in 1971. I was the youngest on the team. He always had time for me. Was tough as nails but taught me so much disciple and how to work hard - life skills I carry 40 plus year later.

I worked with Glen at the Oakville Journal & The Journal Record in the early 60's when he was sports editor. Fun guy. We use to play table tennis at lunch time. Never made any money, but we had a lot of fun!
