GORDON FINDLAY Obituary

FINDLAY, GORDON STUART 1931 - 2017 Peacefully at Trillium Mississauga Hospital in his 86th year, on Thursday, October 5, 2017. Dearly loved husband of Janet (née Dale) for 58 years. Much loved father of Susan (Jerry), Sheilagh (Mike), Doug (Cristine) and Mike (Shelley). Loving grandfather of Ryan, Alex, Andrew, Haley, Kyra, Nathan and Avery. Born in Dundee, Scotland to the late Alexander Morris and Margaret (MacIntyre) Findlay, he was the brother of the late Morris and David, brother-in-law of Glenn Richards and uncle to many nieces and nephews. Gordon came to Canada in 1955 and ultimately was a longtime Communications Director at Royal Insurance Canada. He was a member of the Toronto Scottish Rugby Club, an avid golfer and curler and a member of St. James United Church. He was an enthusiastic reader and storyteller and a frequent contributor to the opinion page of The Globe and Mail as well as other publications both here and in the USA. The family is very grateful for the outstanding care provided by the staff at The Queensway and Mississauga Trillium Oncology and Palliative Care Team. Cremation has taken place. Interment in Bowmanville Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held at St. James United Church, 400 Burnhamthorpe Rd., Etobicoke, on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 2:00 p.m., with a reception to follow. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service. For those who wish, donations in Gordon's name may be made to Trillium Health Partners Palliative Care Unit, St. James United Church or a charity of your choice. I had the excellent good fortune to work with Gord in the late 80's/early 90's at Royal Insurance. What a great person and a fine gentleman.
It was people like Gord who made Royal such a great company back in the day.
The world is a lesser place without him. He will be missed.
