GRACE McENTEE Obituary

GRACE NELLIE McENTEE (nee KIRK) Danced with life for 89 years from her debut in Nottingham, England on October 26, 1924 to her final bow amid an outpouring of adoration at the Claremont Retirement Residence in Toronto on November 22, 2013. And dance she did: Jitterbug, Tango, Cha Cha, Rumba, Limbo, Twist... slowing down to a Waltz only with the physical challenges of the past 10 years. Grace was adored by her (late) husband of 50 years, Donald; daughters, Anne, Gail and Theri; son-in-law, David; and grandchildren, Matthew, Stephanie, Elliott and Adrian. She was also "Nana" to Lucy, Tony, Christian and Stefanie and to everyone at the Claremont, being especially precious to her amazing, dear, dear caregivers for the past 8 years: Victoria, Josie, Leah, Milah and Jebriel, who always treated her royally as "The Queen". Grace and her first great- grandchild, Samantha Anne, surely "crossed souls" as Grace left the stage just as "Sam" was about to make her debut hours later (thanks to Gail's daughter, Stephanie and "Sam's" Dad, Chris) on November 23, 2013. Wonderful friends, Mary and Doris Fiedler, who faithfully visited Grace for Wednesday tea and muffins, enlivened the "Dance" these past several years, sharing stories with their "Gracie" of happy days at the Toronto Lawn Tennis Club, golf vacations and countless other adventures. A Celebration of Grace's "Dance" will be performed at a future date so that baby "Sam" and all of Grace's caregivers can join in. According to her wishes, cremation has taken place and Grace will soon join her beloved Don at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. In honour of her caregivers and everyone at the Claremont, donations to The Philippines Rescue Effort through the Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders, or other charities, are encouraged in lieu of flowers. And so, our stunningly gorgeous, life-filled "Dancing Queen," the music may have stopped, but the joy of your brilliant white smile, dazzling blue eyes and quick wit will play on in our hearts forever.
