GRAEME JONES Obituary

GRAEME JONES It is with great sadness that we announce Graeme left this life on September 21, 2014, having met all its challenges with humour and determination, great energy, huge intelligence and a great sense of adventure and kindness. He leaves behind his loving wife Irene Bailey, his daughter and son, Fiona and Alisdair Jones, his step-children Selina Bannerman and Sean Bailey and grandchildren John, Katie, Liam and Rowan. Graeme was born in Vancouver, attended University of British Columbia where he obtained a Math and Physics degree. Graduated as a CA in 1961 and became a Federal Tax auditor in Vancouver. In 1966 Graeme joined Thorne Riddell in Toronto as the Tax Manager. He was National Tax Managing Partner from 1967 to 1980. Manufacturers Life Insurance Company persuaded him to start the first tax and estate support practice for senior agents in Canada in 1980 as Senior Tax Consultant. The success of this venture was quickly noted and copied by all other large insurance companies. Graeme continued as a consultant and estate planner until his death. He loved classical music, jazz, was an ardent film buff, adventurous and explorative travelling, walking, biking, canoeing, downhill skiing, good food and cooking, a good glass of wine and was a longtime member and supporter of the Glenview Scottish Country Dancers in Toronto. He will be sadly missed by all his friends and clients. A funeral service will be held at St. James Crematorium Chapel, 635 Parliament St. on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 10 a.m., immediately followed by a social memorial gathering. Donations in lieu of flowers, if wished, to the Kensington Hospice, 38 Major St., Toronto, where he was cared for so well by devoted staff and volunteers. Irene, Jane and I leave Thursday/25 to spend 4 days in Chicago.
We want your family and you to know that we would be attending the memorial service and gathering Saturday. We regret not being able to do so.
The 4 of us have many memories of good times on conventions.Graeme was also a big help to me on cases in past years.Graeme definitely was the original advisors ADVISOR -- a TRAIL BLAZER both on treks and in business.
Hope we are able to meet up in the near future.

Oh Irene! I am so deeply sorry to learn of Graeme's death. It was always a joy to see you both and how fondly I remember the conversations and laughter we shared. Words are only the conduit of expression, yet they fall short in describing the wonderful man that Graeme was. Sending you love and prayers as you try to come to grips with the loss of your beloved Graeme!
