GUNTHER GAZDAG Obituary

GAZDAG, GUNTHER STEVEN 1944 - 2019 Passed away at home on December 12, 2019, surrounded by his family and overlooking his dear Bay of Quinte. Son of Steve and Eva Gazdag (deceased). Brother of Steve Gazdag (Madeleine) and Monika Frost (deceased). Beloved husband of Dr. Mary Kudrac. Gunther adored his son, Darren Gazdag (Heather) and treasured his stepchildren, Mike Kudrac (Darci) and Stef Mauler (Mike). He was Opa to his grandchildren, Eric Mauler, Scott Mauler and Ava Kudrac, all of whom he idolized. Born in Vienna, Gunther and his family immigrated to Canada when he was 9 years old. Gunther earned two Master degrees from University of Toronto, an MA and an MEd and became a highly respected and loved principal with the Toronto Separate School Board. Gunther's warm, witty and caring personality earned him a wide circle of friends, all of whom he cherished. Even when he was facing a devastating battle with cancer, he remained gracious to all around him, grateful for their care and never lost his wonderful sense of humour. The family will be forever indebted to Dr. Lionel Noronha, a dear friend and an outstanding physician for his kindness and compassionate care. Visitation will be at Turner and Porter Funeral Home, Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W., on Tuesday, December 17th, 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at St. Demetrius Church, 135 La Rose Ave. (off Royal York Road), Etobicoke, on Wednesday, December 18th at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that friends make a donation to their charity of choice.

Gunther was a fixture in our life. He always made time to drop by our house to see my parents Wally and Natalie. My brother and I had the good fortune of calling him Uncle Gunther since we were children. His infectious laugh and sense of humor would cheer up any room. He was always the life of the party !

I am deeply saddened by the passing of Gunther. Gunther was a my first Program Coordinator at the Toronto Region office. He was a loyal friend and worldly mentor. Gunther was never to busy to offer sage advice to anyone in need. I will forever miss Gunther's sense of humour and infectious laughter. Rest in Peace my dear friend.
Mary, Darren, Mike and Stephanie my sincerest condolences on your loss.

I was in Gunther's very first class at St. Lawrence in 1965. He ended up being my Grades 7&8 teacher. He was an outstanding teacher: smart, kind, funny, energetic, and thought-provoking. I loved his classes and looked forward to them.

Years later when I was in university, we met up for a coffee and catch-up session. I also attended his retirement party along with two other members (fans) of that first class from St. Lawrence. I have not seen or spoken to Gunther since and yet I feel I will miss him. The world seems a lonelier and more empty place without good old Mr. Gazdag out there somewhere.

I will forever remember that Gunther was sweet, very witty, a snappy dresser with a great sense of style in more ways than one. In short - he was a cool cat and all round great guy!

May his essence comfort and warm the hearts of his loved ones forever.

Mr.Gazdag was my favorite principle he always made me feel special (I was supper shy) called me cute.
Gave me trophy's in grade 1 & 2 for my science projects and saying my speech (in grade 1 age 5) in the gym in front of the whole school. I was sad when he left our school. And my heart & prayers go out to Darren and his family.

You were always wonderful company, radiating such a life force that I thought you must surely be invincible.
Alas! to be proven so wrong, and far too soon.
I miss you already.
