GWEN SLAGHT Obituary

SLAGHT, GWEN (nee OTWAY) It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Gwen Slaght, at the age of 79, on April 9, 2021. Predeceased by her beloved husband Willie (Bill) Slaght, Gwen was the cherished mother of Janice, Patricia (Carl) and Michael (Tammy). Caring grandmother of Camille and Julien, Janica and Malik, Tyler, Paul and Jordyn. Loving sister of Bill (Ingrid) Otway. She will be greatly missed by her many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. Gwen was passionate about knitting, crocheting, cooking and baking. Over the years, Gwen had crocheted thousands of hats and scarves and donated all to various organizations across Toronto. Gwen's happiest times were when she had her family gathered for holiday dinners. A private burial for family only will be held at Pine Hills Cemetery, on Saturday, April 24, 2021. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Scott Mission.

The Auzams

Gwen and Willie were the best neighbours a person could ever ask for. Willie was the first to tell us how great the community was and how much we would enjoy the proximity to the train tracks like he did. Over more than a decade, they also let us know when we left our car windows open, brought in our parcels in poor weather, baked us cookies, let our son water their plants with water blasters and allowed us to play with the snow on their car. They treated all the kids on the street like their own, giving them treats and laughing at their antics right outside their door. But more importantly, we just loved chatting with them about sports, their travels, their kids, their grandkids, and life in general. It was a huge and shocking loss when Willie passed, and just as devastating when Gwen did too. We will miss them both so much, but we find some comfort that they are happily reunited. Sincerely, Syd, Mark and Bremner

Pat, Mike and Janice. So sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to you and your families. Gwen and I had some great conversations about all of you. She was very proud of you all. We were looking forward to sitting outside once the weather improved and sharing stories and laughs
I will miss her.
May she rest in eternal peace.
Christine and Jeff Crosby
