Harold James George Reid

Harold Reid Obituary

REID, Harold James George - May 26, 1942 - December 12, 2009 WITH THE LORD! Harold went peacefully to be with the Lord Saturday, December 12, 2009. Harold was born to Kenneth and Helen Reid in Hamilton, Ontario. He has three siblings Fern (Tom) Gardner, Joy (Bryan) Colbourne and Paul (Gwen) and was predeceased by his Mother and two infant siblings. Proud father of Renee (Stephen) Shew, Michael (Aimee), Jai (Faith-Anne) and Peter (Osmyn), and grandfather to Vonnie, Becky, Maggie, Brianna, Rachel, Kailee, Jasmine, Jordan, Sarah, Evan and Josiah. Harold graduated from Eastern Pentecostal Bible College in 1964 (and later was a member of their board of governors and completed a B.Th. in 1997). At Eastern he met the love of his life, Yvonne Faulkner, and they were married in September, 1964. For forty-five years, Harold enjoyed Pastoral ministry in Arnprior, ON, Dalhousie, NB, Granby, PQ, Truro, NS, Kingston and Pickering, ON. Prior to his fifteen years as Pastoral Team Leader at Pickering Pentecostal Church, he served at the Eastern Ontario and Quebec District Office of the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada in Belleville for eight years. He also served as a member of the District and General Executives of the PAOC for many years. Harold was an avid golfer and outdoorsman, who loved gardening, hunting, camping (in his beloved Frontenac Provincial Park), fishing and hiking. He loved all sorts of games as long as they were played by the rules! His grandchildren will miss all the 'cuddle-times' with their giant teddy bear, and the rest will miss all the vigorous discussions (among many other things)! The funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the McEachnie Funeral Home (905-428-8488). A visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at The Gathering Place of Pickering Pentecostal Church (1920 Bayly Street, Pickering). A Celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, December 16th at 1 p.m. at the church. There will be a private burial at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pickering Pentecostal Church designated for 'Village of Hope' homes for children orphaned by HIV/AIDS.

I met Pastor Reid briefly on my visit to Canada 2 yrs ago and was impressed that he took the time not only to talk to me but he truly seemed to have listened to me. I attended church three times and i never had to remind him of my name and he knew the exact week i was leaving because i had told him in our very first conversation. He was warm and kind and I am happy I met him. My aunt who died of cancer told us to remember that the sun will shine again, I pass this sentiment onto your family and hope it brings you comfort as it did me. God bless.

Dearest Yvonne & Family - It is with deepest of regrets that I have learned of Pastor Reid's passing but am happy he is now healed and with our Lord & his family who have gone before him.

To me, Harold Reid WAS PPC! He was wise, thoughtful and above all kind. I think on the many Sunday evenings when he had a Bible class and it was my pleasure to attend and learn from him. I am thankful that I joined PPC under his leadership.

I am sorry I will not be able to be with you on the 16th, but I will be praying for him and for all of you.

I am thankful that he and I said our good-byes last summer when he was still feeling better than he was lately.

Dear Pastor Yvonne and Family,
I opened my email tonight and my heart ached. I send my deepest condolences to you and your family in this time of sorrow. It seemed like only yesterday that I entered your church at the lowest point in my life, only to be welcomed in by Pastor Harold's smiling face, kind words and open arms (not to mention his sense of humour). My heart only finds comfort and peace in knowing that the same way that I felt the unconditional love and support at PPC is the same way Pastor Reid will be welcomed into heaven.

Dearest Yvonne & Family;

My heart hurts for you at this time of the loss of one of the greatest men I ever knew! If he meant so much to me, I can only imagine the grief that you are now dealing with. I pray fervently that God will comfort your hearts and to "celebrate" more than mourn. I'll never forget Harold posting on my facebook wall when my status said I was coming to Canada. He wrote, "I hope you can make time to come and visit Yvonne and I." As you know, I did... and am very thankful to have seen him so recently ... and sadly, for the last time here on earth.

Here is a poem that I wrote regarding his life...

The time had obviously come,
For this wonderful man of God,
To go home to His Father,
No more unknown paths to trod.

His race here is finished,
And such a race he won,
I’m sure he heard the words,
“Faithful Servant … Well Done!”

His body has been healed,
He feels no more pain,
Although he’s very missed,
Our loss is heaven’s gain.

No more struggling on earth,
No more agonizing tears,
The beauty of angels singing,
Is one of many sounds he hears.

While he was here he surely was,
Worthy of respect, and adoration,
With his unwavering faith and strength,
He was truly an inspiration.

He had a cheery disposition,
He was sensitive and meek,
He always had a genuine smile,
And a kind word to speak.

He touched so many lives,
Some who will never be the same…
He did it out of love and duty,
And to bring glory to God’s name.

Imagine how he felt,
Seeing Jesus face to face,
The one he served all these years,
And who prepared him a wonderful place.

Imagine the feelings he had,
As his mansion he first viewed,
Or when he saw loved ones gone before,
The conversations that ensued.

Feeling sad is only natural,
As this loss was very great,
But for Harold it was fabulous,
To see Jesus waiting at the gate.

Cherish your memories with him,
The one we were blessed to know,
Remember the legacy of love and faith,
He left before he had to go.

What will keep some people strong,
And others from drowning in grief,
Is if we have the faith of a child,
And have Harold’s same belief:

If we put Christ first in our lives,
And walk with Him all the way,
With a servant’s, humble heart,
We’ll see him again someday!

Love and Prayers Always!!

Dear Yvonne and Family: Our hearts are heavy with the loss of Pastor Harold Reid. Our prayer is that God will strenghten you all at this sad loss. We were so blessed to have you as our pastors in Truro N.S. for a very short nine years. Your unconditional love and support will NEVER be forgotten! Harold helped me to see my potential in Christ and it changed my life. As I spoke with him a few months ago he was sure that God was in control no matter the outcome. I told him how much you both have meant to us over the years and expressed at length how much we love you both. While I am certain that he is with the Lord, I am just as certain that we have lost one of THE BEST pastors in Canada! Harold Reid has been "Promoted to Glory"......heaven's gain is our great loss. We love you and you can rest assured that there is sadness of heart in Kentucky.

Ted and I send our heartfelt condolence on the passing of Harold. His ministry for the fifteen years I have attended will be missed. The greatest privelege was your family allowing us to encourage you on this final journey. This is proof of the high esteem and love that has been mutual in this congregation. The greatest legacy that any man can leave is not seen with human eyes or touched with human hands. It is carved in love on the hearts of men and women and the family one raises. This is sucess and Harold had certainly earned it."If any man lives and believes in Me he shall never die."

My deepest condolences may god watch over you and your family in this hard time. You are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time, while your loved one is no longer with you, may the memories you have strength and comfort you. With every bird that sings, with every breeze that blows, remember that he is with you, watching over you. May your strength prevail to help you through this difficult time?

Once again please accept my deepest heartfelt sympathy in your time of grief words will seem inadequate to express how you feel, if tears could build a stairway and memories a lane I would walk up right to heaven and return him back to you, just remember death doesn't end your love for him.

Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that
we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need."
