PORTER, HARVEY SIDNEY Passed away on March 29, 2022, at Sunnybrook Veterans Centre, in his 101st year. He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara, his daughter Ann, his son Bob, and his sisters June Wright and Audrey Phillips. Loving father of Jim (Maureen) and Maureen (Lyle). Father-in-law of Sue. Grandfather of Julie (Matt), Ian (Shari), Ryan (Lindsey), Jessie (Jeremy), Ally (Nic), Dana (Adam) and Graeme (Leah). Great-grandfather of Tyson, Myles, Trevor, Spencer, Mya, Megan, Kingsley, Leah, Cash, Marshall and Abby. Harvey was born October 29, 1921 and grew up in Toronto's east end in the Danforth and Woodbine area. He attended Gledhill P.S., Leaside P.S., Jesse Ketcham P.S. and Eastern Commerce H.S. He joined the Army Reserves in 1938 and the R.C.A.F. in 1942. He was an instructor in St. Thomas at the Technical Training School for 3 years and then transferred to Patricia Bay Station on Vancouver Island for a year until the war ended. Harvey's first job was as a part-time bicycle delivery boy for a local drugstore and a local bake shop. His first full-time employment was at Consumers Gas Company as a messenger and eventually as a Superintendent of the Appliance Service Department. In total, he was employed there for 40 years. He was fortunate to be on a team that converted the city of Toronto and several other locations from manufactured gas to natural gas. In the years just prior to retirement, he served with a consulting group and travelled to many countries in Europe and Great Britain. Harvey had an interest in Ham Radio and was a member of Scarborough Amateur Radio Group for many years. Later he helped to form another group, the Senators. He joined the Masonic Lodge in 1954 and in 1966 became Master of St. John's Lodge. He enjoyed his membership and attending meetings. Harvey and Barbara enjoyed travelling to many countries and cottage life in Fenelon Falls. Harvey enjoyed entertaining people with his banjo. He had a busy social life at his condo playing euchre and snooker and planning social events.
