Heinz Walter ROTHGERBER

1937 - 2022

ROTHGERBER, Heinz Walter Heinz Walter Rothgerber passed away peacefully at home on February 8, 2022 at the age of 84 with loved ones by his side. He was born on May 15, 1937, in Idar-Oberstein, Germany, son of the late Walter Rothgerber and Lina Haupt, loving and devoted husband to Diana (nee McLaren) for 56 years and father of Robert and Karen (John). He was also the very proud grandfather to Evelyn, Damian, Keighan, and Quinn. In 1959 he immigrated to Montreal where he met and married the love of his life, Diana. They were especially close to Diana's parents and sisters (and their families), spending many years visiting his in-laws at their residence in Lake Louisa, not far from Montreal. They also developed a community of friends in Montreal that have been a constant presence and support to this very day. Heinz had a successful career with the TD Bank which spanned four decades and took him to locations around the globe. He often spoke glowingly of the many people he met during his tenure with the bank. His job brought him to Toronto in 1977, and he lived in Mississauga until his passing. Heinz loved to travel and spend time with family and friends in Idar-Oberstein, which in retirement he would visit almost annually. He, Diana, and their children all feel a deep connection to the German side of the family proving that distance is no obstacle for love. Heinz was an avid golfer until his health declined and he enjoyed playing with his son and friends in almost every month of the year. He was an ardent reader and enjoyed watching hockey, football, and soccer. He was a longtime Montreal Canadiens fan. Heinz will be remembered for his dry sense of humour and quick wit; he certainly was one of a kind! In his latter years, he would sometimes joke about future events, saying that he would be "checked out" by then; but for all those that knew him, we are so happy that on May 15, 1937, Heinz "checked in".
