Helen Royce Obituary

HELEN MADELINE ROYCE After a long and courageous struggle with cancer, we regret to inform you that our mother, has lost her battle on Friday, July 16, 2010. Helen (Sullivan) Royce was the beloved wife of the late Charles Royce. Mother of Ted Royce and his companion Nora Sellers, Bruce Royce, Laura McKenzie and husband Doug, Maggie Royce and Michele Royce. Grandmother of Kevin Royce of British Columbia, Dawn Vardy (husband Dean) of Orillia and December Brooks (companion Ian Cassidy) of Orillia. Great- Grandmother of Devlin and Dayden Cormier. Prior to retirement, Helen was a long time Federal Government Employee, ending her career with the Department of National Defence, Downsview, Ontario. Since moving to Beaverton in 1972, Helen had made a number of friends and truly enjoyed her time here. Along with Charles Royce, Helen was a founding member of Beaverton Lawn Bowling Club. She was Past President and Executive Member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 135. Helen was Past Executive of the Beaverton Seniors. Helen spent many hours volunteering at Lakeview Manor and on various committees throughout the community. After 80 years, this will be one year, however, that she will not be able to make it to her favourite summer spot...the CNE. Our family will be forever in debt to the care and consideration shown by Dr. Laudanski. He has always respected our Mother's wishes and frequently visited her at home, for which she was grateful. We would like to thank Dr. Stone and extend our heartfelt appreciation for the attentiveness, kindness and respect given to our mother by all the nursing staff at the Palliative Care Unit in Ross Memorial Hospital, Lindsay. The cremation has taken place and wake for Helen will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 135, 517 Mara Road, Beaverton, Ontario on Sunday, July 25, 2010 from 2 to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation to the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation, Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 135 or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated. Maggie, Michele, and the Royce family ~ my heart and love goes out to you. I will be thinking of you and your mom on the 25th. I'm glad she will be with my mom now, who, like Helen had a big brood of kids :) They can share funny stories! It's a busy job for many years! Obviously your mom did a great job of raising her children, love, Barb

Though I didn't have the good fortune to know Mrs. Royce, I am blessed to share working relationships with two of her wonderful daughters: Michele and Maggie. From the brief article, it's clear that Mrs. Royce was a very busy and accomplished woman. And her most remarkable feat, I'm sure, was raising 5 children! My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Royce family. And though I don't know of your beliefs, I wish to share a prayer with you in the hopes that it may bring some comfort:

"A Prayer for My Mother"

Holy God, Creator of all life,
You compare Your love for Your people
to the love of a mother for her children.
Through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, abundantly bless my own dear mother.

She taught me how to stand and to walk; Give her now the strength of Your Spirit. She showed me how to speak and to pray; Surround her now with the sound of Your voice. She nurtured me and loved me into life; Tenderly touch her now with Your joy and peace.

Grant her the serenity and rich fulfillment of a job well done, a life well lived. Forgive all her mistakes and frustrations. Reward all her sacrifices and self-giving. May she, who carried life in her womb, be gently welcomed into Your Divine Embrace,to rejoice for all eternity with everyone she loved and cared for. Amen

(Capuchin Franciscan Friars)

Sincerely,
John

Helen was a very special person to many and will be sadly missed by all. Her generosity and consideration of family, friends and community will be difficult to replace.
She can now rest, having had a full life.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all her family and friends.
Louis, Adrienne, Rebecca and Trevor.
