Hillary Firestone Obituary

FIRESTONE, Hillary - The world is a darker place today. On Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at 8:15 a.m. our daughter, sister, aunt and best friend, Hillary Faith Firestone, lost her battle with ovarian cancer at Princess Margaret Hospital with her family at her side. Her parents Esther and Paul, brothers and sisters Debbie, Shawn, Jay and Sherry, Danny and Ari, nieces and nephews Nathalie, Alex, Jason, Josh, Chaz, Ross, Michael, Courtney and Noah, and the love of her life Stuart Segal and his sons Sam and Aaron, have lost a huge part of their hearts and will forever miss and remember her. As devastated as we are to lose Hillary so young, we can take some comfort in thinking about the fullness of the life she lived and the light she brought into the lives of so many others. The circle of Hillary's life was an endlessly enlarging one of making new life-long friends, and to all of them...thank you so much for the comfort and support you provided to Hillary and to us during the many months of her illness. Caroline, Michelle, Betty and Robin, you will always be her sisters in spirit. We are grateful to Dr. Barry Rosen and Dr. Amit Oza for their care, and will never forget the extraordinary support Hillary received from Dr. Orit Freedman, Dr. Gary Rodin and Naz Nouriany. At Benjamin's Park Memorial Chapel, 2401 Steeles Ave. West (3 lights west of Dufferin) for service on Thursday, February 12th at 1:00 p.m. Interment at Pardes Shalom Cemetery in Congregation Habonim section. Shiva at 335 Hidden Trail, Toronto with visits from 11:00 a.m. daily and Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with evening services at 7:00 p.m. Donations may be sent to The Hillary Firestone Ovarian Cancer Research Fund at Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation, 416-946-6560. Hillary, we know you have found that place, somewhere over the rainbow, where skies are blue and the dreams you dared to dream really do come true. We love you forever.

I worked with Hillary when she was at TELETOON. Hillary's positive attitude, keen intelligence and wit were welcome additions to our team. But it was her sense of humour and humanity that really set her apart. Hillary touched many people's lives. I know, for my part, she inspired me and made me a better person.

The Promise of Me

I am no longer drowning,
I have stopped thrashing,
And can start to float,
From here I will swim.

I accept my life,
I have chosen not to react,
I am aware,
I can make choices.

I accept myself for I am aware,
I forgive myself because I have compassion,
I love myself because I am worthy,
I will experience my Spiritual Self.

I will Be in the moment,
I will consciously breathe,
I will live Life,
Because IT IS…WHAT IT IS.

I have Light,
I have strength,
I have energy,
I am ALIVE.

I will speak from the I,
I will speak to myself,
I will listen to myself,
With my emotional, intellectual and Spiritual Self.
