HOWARD MANN Obituary

MANN, HOWARD ASAHEL WESCOTT Howard Mann passed peacefully with family lovingly by his side on Saturday, November 12, 2022, at age 85 years. He is survived by Jean, his wife of 63 years, daughters Corinne and Lisa, son-in-law Link, granddaughters Vanessa and Andrea, great-grandchildren Cole and Julie, and dear sisters-in-law Joyce and Mary Jean. Born in Timmins Ontario, to Howard Sr. and Dolly, Howard grew up in Scarborough with older sister Lois and younger brother Dennis, where he later raised a family of his own. Howard was an exceptional husband, father, Papa, uncle, cousin, friend, neighbour, colleague, mentor who filled our lives with limitless creativity, art, imagination, whimsy, humour, unconditional love, and endless support. His willingness to always lend a helping hand inspired his nickname "Howie 911". Howard was a talented and gifted artist who began his graphic design career at storied Toronto commercial art firm Rous & Mann (where members of the Group of Seven worked). Then as Creative Director and Partner, he helped Yorkville Press grow into the largest privately owned printing company in Canada, winning awards and accolades and took great pride in helping many young artists build careers along the way. Howard, Dad, Papa, Sonny you are so very deeply missed. We will carry you in our hearts, and in every breath and step we take. You will forever be our hero. Thank you to all who helped us care for this extraordinary man and his family. You were the lights that carried him, and all of us, through the end of his journey. As Howard was fond of saying, "Art is not what life is, but what it could be." We hope you will join the family in a Celebration of the amazing Life he created. This event will be announced at a later date - as will an upcoming neighbourhood vigil walk. It is with a heavy heart but gratitude to God for a life well spent that I write this condolence message to your family. I am deeply sorry for your loss and I know that no amount of words can ever be enough to express the sadness and grief that comes with losing a loved one, especially a man like MR. Howard Mann. He was an amazing soul.

The few months I spent with him, caring for him means a lot to me. He was such a beautiful soul, a very charming, kind and considerate person. I will always remember him by his signature big, beautiful smile which he was quite generous with. Working with him was easy because he was the most independent patient I have ever had the privilege of working with. He left a huge void in our hearts but I know that his spirit lives on. I have so many grateful memories of Papa and he will be greatly missed.

May you all find peace and strength, and resilience as you navigate through this new existence. I pray that the memory of your beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, Uncle and friend will forever live in your hearts and keep you strong.

Sending you lots of love and hugs from my family and I.

Yours sincerely,
Hafsat (Havie).

So so sad. I was honored to know Howard ( Mr. Mann) since I was a baby growing up, he was my hero! He amazed me with his artwork and inspired me to do art work . He was the nicest man I ever met. Never said a bad word about anybody! When we were younger they would take trips down to Cleveland and we would take trips up to Scarborough memories I will never forget, my entire family Really love this man I'm really going to miss you Howard.

Very sad to hear of Howard's passing. He was the best boss I ever had. We worked together for 11 years though felt like I knew him all my life. He was a warm, kind, generous man and an inspiration to many.
His humour was legendary and was used to great effect whenever things got hectic in the art department.
Howard and Jean's staff Christmas parties were welcome gatherings where we all got a chance to unwind and get to know one another.
Howard was one-of-a-kind and will be missed. May he Rest in Peace. Our condolences to Jean and family.
