Hugh MacFADYEN Obituary

MacFADYEN, Hugh Leslie January 26, 1955 - October 25, 2017 Beloved son of the late John and Mary MacFadyen. Hugh was blessed with six children: Becky (Jason); Julia (Colin); Jason (1982-1984); Tori (Dan); Curtis (Gabrielle); and Alexandra; and seven cherished grandchildren – Fergus, Ryder and Nyam, Aria and Aurora, and J.P and Hank. Dear brother of Heather; and Janet (Scott). Much remembered uncle to Sherri, Angela, Cooper and Ginger, Harold and Amanda. Hugh was well known as the owner/operator of the J & H Riding Stables near Bolsover for over thirty years. He was also a skilled artist and craftsperson, hockey player, singer and pianist, chess and checker opponent and storyteller. Hugh was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Bolsover where he sang in the church choir as a youth and later taught Sunday School and served on the board of managers. After an accident just over seven years ago, Hugh was determined to regain his mobility each and every day. He bravely confronted and navigated the sidewalks and buildings of both Orillia and downtown Toronto in a power wheelchair controlled only by clicks of his cheek. Family will receive friends at the Mangan Funeral Home, 332 Osborne Street, Beaverton, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, November 3rd. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, November 4th at 2 p.m. in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 54 Bolsover Road, Bolsover. Burial will take place at the church cemetery directly after the service. All are invited for a time of refreshments and fellowship in the church hall following the burial. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Bolsover or to the Ontario March of Dimes or Little Trinity Church, Toronto.
