To the Porter family. Hugh was a very experienced judge on the Bench when I was a very young lawyer - and now I am a judge on the same Bench. He was truly one of the most gracious, compassionate, and impartial judges - he set a high bar for those of us who followed him. He enriched the world around him, Kathy Caldwell

An exemplary judge who was a model of fairness and courtesy.

He treated counsel and those who appeared before him with respect and was held in high regard by all. He conveyed insight, restraint, wisdom – all the qualities that judges aim for. For Hugh these qualities appeared to come easily and naturally.

He was truly suited to the bench and his retirement was a real loss to our court. His passing is a loss to our community.
