Ian Lauder Obituary

IAN LAUDER May 27, 1982 - July 29, 2009 On July 29th, our extraordinary son was taken from us, far too soon, as a result of a motorcycle accident. No words can describe the depth of this loss, suffered by family and friends. The love and dedication that Ian brought to life were an inspiration to everyone he touched. Ian was the amazing first-born child of Mike and Bev, the irreplaceable big brother to Brianne (Ryan) and Erin. Grandson to Mae and Bill (deceased) Knights, and to Cecil and Lucille (both deceased). Nephew to Colin (Karen), Carrol (Bill) Elliott, Sue (Don) Simpson, and Karen (Brad) Haley. He will be deeply missed by all of his cousins: Greg, Ryan, Justin, Laura, Chris, Jenna, William, Nicholas and Zachary. The family will receive friends at St. Dunstan's of Canterbury Anglican Church, 56 Lawson Rd., Scarborough, on Tuesday, August 4, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. followed by the Church Service on Wednesday, August 5th at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Ian,

Even after all this time - 15 years gone - it is so difficult to comprehend that you are no longer with us. We continue to miss you every day, yet we are able to enjoy and embrace the memories of years gone by, when you were still with us.

You worked so hard to reach your goals, and had so much to offer the world. You were a role model for your cousins, and loved and admired by the whole family. You are always in our hearts.

Ian, we love you always.

The Lauder family,

I found out today about Ian. What a wonderful young man I first met in 1995, on the Marlies. I was fortunate to always work the "D" door, I would have the greatest conversations with Ian. He was a true inspiration, and one of the people that took the time to first skate with my son , who was 5 at the time.
Ian was a fine young man, funny, considerate, gritty, a true team player - not a selfish bone in him.

May God bless the Lauder family and the memories of Ian forever live in all of us.

God Bless,

Coach D

Our Dearest Ian:
Who would ever believe that you have been gone for one full year?
In all ways, it seems longer, like a life sentense of pain, despair and sadness. Your presence was so fulfilling and now a huge flame has been turned off in our lives.
Ian, we miss you desperately, with every breath that we take.
Loving you was to easy. Letting go is so hard.
We cherish and love you always, through our many wonderful memories.
While in time, we may never heal, hopefully someday, we can smile.

This is truly the saddest and most devastating event of our lifetime. Who could have imagined having to say a final fare well to a vibrant, healthy, and intelligent, full of life young man, such as our treasured nephew and cousin Ian?

He was a wonderful nephew and a great fun loving cousin. Our lives will never be the same without him.

To our precious Ian ...

Words truly cannot express how sorry and deeply saddened I am by this tragedy. Ian was the first person I met when I paddle-boated down to your cottage and welcomed me with open arms. The nights spent with him playing cards and sitting by the fire will stay with me forever. Ian was a wonderful reflection of his loving parents and a brother I'd be proud to call my own.

Ian had an infectious personality, laugh and smile, he, and your family, will always be in my heart.

August 3, 2009

Dear Bev, Mike, Brianne, and Erin,

I have struggled for days debating what to write in remembrance of one of the finest people I have had the honor of calling a friend. The first time I met Ian, he was shirtless, as he often was, and I thought to myself “I had better make sure this guy never has a reason to get mad at me.” This feeling did not last long, however, because it quickly became apparent that I had met one of the nicest, most genuine, fun loving people on Earth.

Words can not describe the magnitude of this loss. He was a great friend, a hero (he saved my sister in-law’s life in a boating accident), a larger than life personality, and one of the finest men I have ever met.
I am lucky to have known him.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

With Love,

To Bev, Mike, Erin and Brianne:
Although I had lost touch with Ian since his early school days; his name was often brough up in conversation by my son Ben - I remember so fondly balancing their birthday parties with you Bev (as they were born the same day and year) so they could attend each others party. During these last few years Ben would talk so fondly of his friendship with Ian and how they never forgot to get together or send an email to each other on May 27; how much he enjoyed your holiday get togethers and what a wonderful family you have. Ian's untimely death has affected us all; and it is with deep sorrow that I write this message. I want you to know that all of you are in my prayers as you work through the loss of your wonderful son. A professor at the U of T once told me "it's not that we are born; it's about the life that we live" -- in his 27 years Ian impacted the lives of everyone he met in an unforgettable way. In our remembrance of him, of his talent, sense of humour and his zest for life, we will smile through our tears. My God Bless and Keep you all in His Love and Comfort. Cathy Heaslip

My hear stopped and I was breathless as I read about this terrible loss. I am simply devastated. I considered Ian a good friend and a 1st class individual. Ian's parents should be commended for raising such an outstanding young man that was taken from all of us far too soon. I met Ian at Extreme fitness in Pickering 4 years ago and shared his passion for motorcycles, fitness and travel. My deepest condolences go out to all Ian's family and friends. God bless all of you.

Dear Mike, Bev, Brianne and Erin,
Words alone cannot express how we feel at this time. We have been brought up to trust in God and his plan. It's times like this that make us question his timing and means. At Ian's birth you gave him to God and he in turn let you borrow him for 27 years. The Lord has now called him home. It does not make it any easier I know. God also gave you the ability to make and maintain great memories of a great son. This he will never take away. One day we shall all see Ian's great smile and hear him laugh. What a day that will be. For us it will be a lifetime but for him mere seconds. You are in our prayers and thoughts.

Love Andrew, Lena, Emma, Lucas, Adam and Liam
