IAN MORRISON Obituary

DR. IAN GRAY MORRISON, B.Sc., Ph.D It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Ian, peacefully in his sleep at home on Wednesday, June 25, 2014. Ian is predeceased by his mother and father, Jean and John Morrison. He is survived by his loving wife Grace, his two dear daughters and his caring sister Marion in Scotland. Ian was born in Glasgow, Scotland and educated there and in Eugene, Oregon. His professional career took him around the globe on behalf of C.I.L., I.C.I. and Akzo Nobel as Manager of Environmental Affairs. He was a proud member of Bluffers Park Yacht Club in Toronto where he and Grace sailed in numerous memorable races on Ruffian, and celebrated many a Robbie Burns Night -- it was there that his Scottish wit shone. Ian was a fine golfer, skier and pianist, an avid reader and cryptic crossword pro. A lover of the Caravaggio paintings in Italy and the flamenco music of Spain, he and Grace travelled extensively. His ties with Scotland remained strong in his love of its lore and its single malt whiskies -- his wine-making skills put his chemistry degree to good use. A private cremation has taken place. A celebration of Ian's life will be held at a future date. We thank everyone for their caring words, thoughts and gestures. We shall miss him. Now, to quote daughter Carol, "Slange Var!"

Ian will be greatly missed by everyone at Bluffers Yacht Club and especially by myself and Linda. He always had a helping word for us, delivered with his trademark wit. Such a lovely man. Now there is no one to tease me remorselessly every time Sunderland lose or to discuss the beautiful game with. He will be a huge miss. My thoughts are with Grace and her family.
