ILVA PRINCE Obituary

PRINCE, ILVA HERMIONE (nee CAMPBELL) Ocober 18, 1924 - December 20, 2020 Ilva Prince is survived by her children Steph (Norm Williams), Mike (Karen Wallace), Doug (Carol Good), Victoria (Philip Robson), her grandchildren Jeff (Noemi), Samantha (Jeff), Kaley (Eric), Jessica (Brian), Kathleen (Ian), James (Steph), William, Emma (Conor), Thomas (Bailey), and her great and great-great-grandchildren. Ilva was predeceased by the love of her life, Albert, her parents and brothers. Born in Newry, Northern Ireland, Mom came to Canada with her grandparents as a young girl, and grew up in the Beach (Toronto). Mom and Dad lived in the Beach after marrying in 1948 until moving to Agincourt, where they raised a family and made many friends. They returned to the Beach for their last 25 years together. Theirs was a life full of laughter and love, songs and stories, which inspired friends and family alike. Mom was gracious, generous, smart, beautiful and funny. She volunteered for years. She curled, played crib and bridge. She enjoyed spending time with her "sisters" in Beta Sigma Phi. She loved being at the cottage, whether with family and friends, the pets, or alone. Mom conquered crosswords and loved to read. She loved animals. She knit for family, friends and charities. She took correspondence courses. Mom cared about the underdog and always found ways to give back. Actively involved in her children and grandchildren's lives, she was the family memory bank, never forgetting an important date. Mom had a special essence that is hard to capture in words but was easy to see and feel for those lucky enough to know her; to know her was to know love. We are confident Mom and Dad are happy to be reunited. Thanks to the amazing caregivers who supported Mom for years, including Dr. Pham and her team, the wonderful Hadas, Huan, Gigi, Lois, Nigelle, Magda and so many others. A scholarship has been set up at Centennial College to honour Mom (and Dad). If you wish, please donate at https://myappform.centennialcollege.ca/donatenow/ and note "Ilva Prince" in the Tribute portion or send a cheque and note the scholarship in the "re" line and mail it to Centennial College, P.O. Box 631, Station A Toronto, ON M1K 5E9 Attn: Emma Dunk. A celebration of life will be held when safely possible. I didn't know your Mom well but I was fully aware of what a full-time Life Force Field she was for the entire family. It was fascinating to me that she could happily endure her bed-ridden perch over the past few years but I think it was her hunger for knowledge and appreciation for everything life still had to offer that kept her contributing to it. As you'd expect. And with the passing of that other life force named Al, her passing shortly thereafter told a wonderful story as well. Rare that two people could join together and make the world a better place. Fitting that, as rich as her family life was, her need to be close to Al seems most essential. Quite the legacy.

When I worked with Al for many years, we always enjoyed his daily phone call to the wonderful Ilva. Theirs was an enviable love story. My thoughts are with you.
