Married to Bill Emerson, she had three children: Maureen, Mary-Jane, and Craig. Passions have included horseback riding, bridge, tennis, and her many friendships. Family, which had grown to include 8 grandchildren and 5 great- grandchildren, was most important. Irene was a strong and very independent woman with a great sense of humour. Bringing our daughter to meet her beautiful Great-Grandmother was one of my favorite memories of Grandma and I feel so blessed to have had it and her in our lives. She was kind, generous, sweet, caring, and thoughtful - a model of grace for us to look up to and respect. I miss her so much and it’s hard to accept that I won’t be receiving anymore calls or FaceTimes that begin with “Hello, dear, how are you doing and how is my little Camille?” ♡ She loved hearing about her grandson’s job and loved that he had so many character traits of his grandfather (she would give the biggest grin and say “ooh Sean-Paul sounds just like my Bill”). She knew how to show love and my life is better for having known her. ♡ I wasn’t finished learning from her, but I’ll always treasure all that I did learn and look forward to passing her memories on to her future generations.

My Grandma: what a strong beacon she was. I admired her so much-she was a very sharp, intelligent woman that appreciated a good laugh. I loved my visits to Canada to see her. My last visit was the hardest, as I knew that very well may be the last time I got to see her in person. I love you Grandma, thank you for always being my cheerleader in my endeavors growing up, and now into a young woman. You are so, so missed. Love, Roshel.

We had a lot of good times while Irene lived at the Palisades and at DelManor; lots of laughs and good political discussions that we always joked that we could not fix. I will miss our lengthy phone calls and chit chats. Also being brought up-to-date on her grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were a joy for Irene to talk about their accomplishments. You will be missed. / Doreen Bendall
