VOLPATTI, JACK September 28, 1926 – April 8, 2022 Peacefully, in Toronto, at age 95, in the arms of Gemma, his wife of 59 years. Lovingly remembered by children, Michael (Hana Zalzal) and Michelle (Christopher Schnarr); grandchildren, Luke, John, Matthew and Andrea. Born in San Giorgio della Richinvelda in Friul, Italy, Jack and his late brother Vince followed their father's earlier footsteps of 1911, to Canada in search of a better life. With his brother and with his lifelong late friend Rino Ferrazzutti, he worked for almost half a century, first as a carpenter and then contractor, building throughout the GTA; many of those years with his cousins Rudy and Jerry Bratty. Jack's presence on the jobsite was both heard and seen by all, setting an example by being the first to arrive and the hardest to work. He was as demanding of others as he was of himself, but foremost being fair, principled and honourable, the traits that were taught to him by his father. Despite 6 and sometimes 7-day work weeks, he still found time to garden and tinker in his workshop, the original big box hardware store. But while work was an inevitable part of his life and his hobbies were cherished, his true calling was that of husband, father, grandfather and friend. The effort he put into his work and the joy that he put into his pastimes paled in comparison to all that he put into his family, his foremost pride and joy. From family to friend to colleague, his love, passion, energy, humour and resolve will be forever remembered. A Memorial Visitation will take place between 3 and 8 p.m., on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at Ward Funeral Home, 2035 Weston Rd., Weston, ON, and a Memorial Service commencing at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 3055 Bloor St. W., Etobicoke, ON. Donations in memory of Jack to Villa Leonardo Gambin (
villagambin.com) and wearing masks at the memorials would be appreciated by the family.
