James CHOW Obituary

CHOW, James Moire (Jimmy Chowser) - Passed peacefully on August 11, 2012 with his beloved wife Patricia at his side after a heroic battle against cancer. Jim was the very proud father of Donald (Ann), Heidi, Gordon (Christina), Timothy (Traci) and predeceased by Pamela (Douglas). Wonderful, wise and playful Grumpa to Brandon (Andrea), Shannon (Christopher), Megan, Ashley, Timothy, Melissa, Jacob and Sidney. Great-Grumpa to Alexis, Braedon and his namesake Jackson James. Jim was born in Chaplin, Saskatchewan to Joe Bell King Chow and Lee Yock Ying on March 31, 1934. He will be missed by his brothers and sisters Joe (Marian), Jessie (Paul), Jack, Jerry (Kathie), Don (Val) and Dorothy, many nieces and nephews and predeceased by Joyce, Jean and June. Jim was one of the few hockey players of Chinese ancestry in his day. At 5 feet 5 inches and 150 pounds "Chowser" was also one of the smallest. While playing for the Spokane Jets his performance, scoring two goals against the Moscow Selects of the U.S.S.R. in 1966 was one of his biggest thrills in his hockey career. He was also voted most valuable and most popular player that year. Chowser was also a member of the Spokane Jets when the team won the Allan Cup in 1970. He will be in our hearts forever. There will be a Memorial Service at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 48 Angeline Street South, Lindsay on Wednesday, August 15th at 1:00 p.m. If desired, in memoriam donations to the Ross Memorial Hospital Palliative Care Unit would be appreciated by the family and can be arranged by Parker Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 19 Moose Road, Lindsay, 705-324-1988 . Hello! Long shot here since your father passed away more than a decade ago. I'm wondering if your father had a Bakersfield Kernals jacket from his one year with the team; the only year they existed. I recently purchased the jacket in a thrift store in Chilliwack BC and I sent it back to Bakersfield California. They were thrilled becasue it is the only 'Kernals' memorabilia they have. It was a pretty small jacket. I was wondering if it is was your Dads and if so, how did it end up in Chilliwack. ABC did a story on it here https://youtu.be/fN5_19mdfBI They are eager to find out more information. I doubt this message will get to you, but if it does, 778 229 7194 is my cell. Cheers.
