James Crowley Obituary

CROWLEY, James Francis - June 24, 1948 - August 11, 2010 It is with profound sorrow and sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, retired Metropolitan Police Service Detective Sergeant James Francis Crowley at the age of 62, early in the morning on Wednesday, August 11, 2010. He leaves to mourn his passing three sons Brian, Michael and Lou, grandchildren Laken and Tanner, brother Pat, sister-in-law Carolyn, countless nieces and nephews and Margaret. Predeceased by his brothers Louis, John and Richard. Known to his friends and family as Jim or Jimmy, he dedicated his life to helping people in need; first as an Undertaker, followed by a 28 year career serving the public in the police service, later in private security, making a final gesture by donating his lungs for transplant in hopes to bring a better quality of life to the recipient. The two things he cherished most in life were his family and friends; he will be sorely missed. Friends will be received at the BRETT FUNERAL CHAPEL, HASTINGS, 76 Bridge St. N., 705-696-2222, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday. Parish Prayers will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday. A Funeral Mass will be held at OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL CHURCH, 51 Albert St. E., Hastings, Saturday, August 14, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Cemetery. If desired, donations may be made to a charity of choice. Online condolences may be made at www.brettfuneralchapels.com

I found this composition in my husband's belongings, It is titled 'The Path' and I am assuming the author is James Crawley, May 1989 which appears at the bottom of the page.... a very profound message. I don't know how my husband came to have it. My husband passed away in 2020. He received a successful double lung transplant in October 2019. In this obituary I learn that James donated his lungs, every donation is appreciated and gives someone to 'buy some time'. I regret that we did not have the opportunity to thank the family of my husband's donor, so I am offering a thank you James Crawley's family instead.

Jim and I were plainclothes partners for two years (1979 - 1980). I had tremendous respect and admiration for him. He was the quintessential police officer. A true professional, dedicated, hardworking, thorough and full of enthusiasm in the pursuit of justice. He became an elite investigator and was rewarded with promotions and given a position in the prestigious Toronto Police Homicide Squad. I'm saddened by his passing. My deepest and sincerest sympathies to his family and in particular to his sons. Always be proud of who your Father was and what he stood for.
