JAMES HOWE Obituary

JAMES (JIM) DUNBAR HOWE April 29, 1942 - March 2, 2014 Of Leukemia at Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto. Beloved husband of Robin (Rigby) and loving father to Melissa (Andrew Mosley), Rebecca McCullogh (Geoffrey), Jeremy Garner-Howe (Cindy McLeish) and John Wood (Kate Moore). Devoted Gaga to Cody Garner-Howe, Matthew and Aleah Mosley, Kayla, Payton and Tip McCullogh and Charlotte Wood. Survived by his adoring mother Jean Finlay and loving sister Judy Howe. His passion for the wilderness was fostered at Kilcoo Camp and continued in his love for summers at the cottage in Algonquin Park. After a career spanning 35 years at Abitibi-Price, he retired to travel the world with Robin. A longtime practitioner of Theravada Buddhist meditation, Jim faced his illness with gracious equanimity. Those who knew Jim will remember his quick wit and humour, his enormous generosity, gratitude for the gifts of life, boundless love and huge bear-hugs. A Celebration of Life will take place at the Old Mill, 21 Old Mill Road, Toronto, on Saturday, March 8th at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Amici Camping Charity or to Princess Margaret Hospital.

It's a month shy of 35 years when Jim and I ran the Boston Marathon. The night before we attended a reception for runners where Jim brought his tape recorder. He 'inferred' to distributors there that he was from CBC radio and interviewed several. That was Jim. Yes, we both finished the race

Jim was a wonderful host when we canoed over to the cottage in Algonquin Park a few years ago. He was in his element. I am sure he is 'there' again.
