LEMON, James Thomas - Professor Emeritus, Geography, University of Toronto On January 31, 2012 at home in his 82nd year. Born West Lorne, Ontario, 1929. Degrees from University of Western Ontario, Yale University Divinity School, University of Wisconsin, Madison. Served United Church of Canada 1958 - 1960, Iron Bridge, Ontario. Professor of Geography, UCLA 1964 - 1968; University of Toronto 1968 - 1996. Authored three books: The Best Poor Man's Country on 18th century southeastern Pennsylvania - awarded American History Association Beveridge Prize for best book in American History in 1972; Toronto Since 1918 (1985); Liberal Dreams and Nature's Limits: Great Cities of North America Since 1600 (1996). Initiated Community Involvement course, Innis College, U of T, 1970s. Elected to Toronto Board of Education 1976 - 1978. Served many years on Social Planning Council Board, Toronto. Husband of Carolyn Miller Lemon 53 years; father of Margaret (Guy) Roberge, Janet (Marty) Williams, Catherine Lemon; grandfather of Oliver Thomas Williams. Brother of Robert Earl Lemon; brother-in-law of Marjorie Louise Miller. Memorial Service to be held in April/May.
