MAIN, JAMES RICHARD July 4, 1922 - November 28, 2021 It is with much sadness that we announce the death of Jim on Sunday, November 28, 2021. Jim passed away peacefully, after a year at The Veterans' Centre at Sunnybrook Hospital where he received wonderful care. He was the deeply loved husband of Kay (Katherine) for 58 years and loving father to Lois Townsend and Stephen Main (Carol). Grandfather to John (Janice), Greg (Caz) and Kelly (Craig, deceased), Trevor and James (deceased). "GG Jim" to Emma, Zoe, Brianna, Emily, Michael, Ryan, Evan, Audrey, Roman, Freddy and Claudia. He will be missed by Doug Townsend, his cousins, nieces and nephews, business associates, as well as his many bridge partners. Jim lived a long life full of adventure and accomplishments. He was a decorated war hero (his Distinguished Flying Medal having been pinned on him by King George VI), a pilot who was able to pass his commercial instrument rating, a CPA-CA with a long career and an accomplished skier, golfer, and bridge player having achieved his Ruby Life Master, and a longtime member of the Thornhill Club. Jim was a man who never shied away from a challenge, "worked hard and played hard", "rarely, if ever, complained, and loved a celebratory meal and party. He loved spending half the year in Florida which he did up until the 2020 pandemic and the other half in his condominium in Thornhill, which allowed him to boat and golf year round. Prior to his time in Florida, many years were spent at the cottage on Lake Scugog, boating in the summer and skiing in the winter. Jim made the most of his 99 years. He believed that life was a carousel, you get one ticket, so enjoy the ride… and he did. Jim was loved by many and respected by all. Funeral Service to be held at Kane-Jerrett Funeral Home, 8088 Yonge Street in Thornhill, on Friday, December 10, 2021, at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Salvation Army would be appreciated.
