James Mansfield Obituary

JAMES (JIM) ERNEST MANSFIELD Peacefully at Bridgepoint Health, Toronto, on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 in his 86th year. Dear and only son of the late Ernest A. Mansfield, D.C., and Jessie Lindsay Mansfield, and step-son of the late, much loved Evelyn Galbraith Mansfield, all of Ottawa. Survived by his two devoted sisters, Marion Nicoll [Ottawa] and Nora Mansfield [Smith's Falls, ON]. Jim was predeceased [2009] by his loving and devoted wife of over 50 years, and his best friend, Ruth King Mansfield. Jim was a supportive and caring Dad for Kerry K. Johnston, and was a proud Grandpa Jim for Kathleen Johnston (Scott) of Vancouver, Heather Johnston (Ibrahim) of Mali, West Africa, Sarah Johnston (Glenn) of Kitchener, and D'Arcy Johnston (Carrah) of Waterloo, and will be missed by his six great-grandchildren. Jim served with pride in Canada's Merchant Navy during the Second World War, and before his retirement, worked with Bell Canada and the Government Services Ministry for Ontario. A Memorial Service is planned for 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 15, 2010 at the First Unitarian Congregation, 175 St. Clair Avenue West, Toronto, just west of Avenue Road.

Although I did not know Mr Mansfield, I mourn the passing of another heroic Canadian war Veteran. To you his family and friends I extend my deepest sympathies and to him, my sincere appreciation for the freedoms that we all enjoy and must never take for granted.

I will remember them.
