Jane COOK Obituary

COOK, Jane "Jane Porter from the Beach" Jane fought her tough battle against COPD for over a year. After several hospital visits in Bracebridge and Brampton, she finally found peace the morning of January 19, 2018 with the sun flowing through her window, onto her face, at Brampton Civic Hospital. She leaves behind her husband of 52 years, Ron, her children David, Laurie and Doug and grandchildren Brian Losier and Ashley, Sam and Adam Cook. Predeceased by her parents Bobby and Dorothy Porter. Jane was "a character." Very proud of her participation years ago with the award winning St. Aidans Church Choir in the Beach. Jane attended Malvern Collegiate Institute where she met husband Ron. Married and living in Scarborough, Jane was eager to volunteer to assist at Ionview Public School for outdoor excursions up north or into the city. At Christmas she would take a group of the Ionview area kids down to Santa Claus Parade. Involved in the community, Jane coached and managed girls Ringette teams, managed hockey teams, was Secretary of Dorset Park Minor Hockey Association and served one year as President. Later she worked with our friend Bill McGuin to organize the Scarborough Stingers Oldtimers Hockey Team. She just loved her trips south with the Stinger Ladies, although few details were disclosed on return. For the last 19 years, Jane enjoyed going to the cottage on Wood Lake, meticulously planning each trip with her master "list." During the last summer, with Jane on oxygen, both new and old friends would show up to the door with food, treats or just to visit. She appreciated that so much. Thanks to the Palliative Care Team at Brampton Civic for their medical and moral support. All are appreciated, particularly Dr. Davey. Arrangements have been made for cremation by Drury Funeral Centre, Alliston, ON. At this time, no service will be held. Any donations in Jane's name to your local Salvation Army would be appreciated.
