Janis Koyanagi Obituary

JANIS TERUKO KOYANAGI Janis was a bright shining star whose life was cut short by a brief illness on Sunday, March 18, 2012. She touched the hearts and lives of the many whose paths she crossed with her exuberant dynamic personality. She loved life and shared her "joie de vivre" with all the people in it. Janis will be profoundly missed by the love of her life, Ed Krautner. The spirit of their Mommy will live on in the hearts of Josh (11 years), Ben (8 years) and Aaron (5 years). She was the beloved little sister of Ray Koyanagi, Kim Bennett (Jonathan) and Harumi Matchett (Rick). Janis is together again with her Dad and Mom (Mark and Ruth Koyanagi) and Hailey. Her memory will be forever cherished in the hearts of her in-laws, Steve and Jean Krautner and sister-in-law, Debbie Penney (Don). She was fun-loving Auntie Janis to Kyle, Kaitlyn, Luc, Jason, Keira and Stevie. To celebrate Janis' life, a visitation will be held on Friday, March 23, 2012, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., G. H. Hogle Funeral Home Ltd., 63 Mimico Ave., Etobicoke. Funeral service, Saturday, March 24, 2012, 11 a.m., Wesley Mimico United Church, (2 Station Rd., Etobicoke). Janis was a warm and wonderful person, my mentor both at work and as a mom. I had the privilege of working with her and she was the most caring leader I have ever known. She always took time out of her busy day to meet with me. My husband feels the same way, she always had a nice word for him when they met. At the same time, I know that family was the most important thing to her. I loved seeing her with her children and will always cherish the memories of seeing them all together. You can see in her children how truly special she was. The world can learn from her legacy.

I just had lunch with Janis in January and we spent most of our time talking about her children. She was full of joy when she spoke of them. She also told me of the true love story of meeting, 'friending' and marrying her husband. It is with great sadness that I learn of her passing. A light has gone out and she'll be missed.
