JOAN CORVERA Obituary

CORVERA, JOAN (nee PLATER) Died suddenly, but peacefully in Toronto on January 14, 2022. Joan was born in Mansfield, England, on September 21, 1933, to Arthur Plater and Lilian Hogg, the elder of two siblings. She is survived by her brother Arthur Jr. (Margaret), and their children Jillian (Phillip), great-niece Emma-Clare, and niece Clare. Cremation has taken place. After training as a teacher, Joan struck out for Spain where she forged a stellar career and met and married her husband Manolo (who predeceased her in 1986). The couple immigrated to Canada in the 1950s, finally settling in Toronto. Joan was a born teacher. One of her proudest accomplishments was teaching young patients at the Sick Children's Hospital. She was an active member of St. Paul's Anglican Church Bloor Street. Joan was feisty, generous and elegant, and did not mince words. She will be much missed by family and friends in Britain, Spain, Canada and the US. Please consider making a donation in her memory to SickKids or Canadian National Institute for the Blind.
