Joan KOHAL Obituary

KOHAL, Joan (Jodi) Joan Kohal, known as Jodi, in her 84th year, passed away with her daughter Karin by her side on March 22, 2018 at Royal Victoria Health Centre, Barrie. Cherished wife of the late Peter Uno Kohal (June 7, 2016), she was preceded in death by her son Rob Kohal (Hilary). Jodi is survived by her daughter Karin Thomson (Robb), her sister Janet Peterson (Jim), grandchildren Jessica, JD and Stephanie Thomson and Robbie and Evan Kohal and nephews Don and Jim Peterson. Jodi will be remembered for her joie de vivre and the positive energy she exuded. Jodi's passion was dance and she shared this passion for many years teaching students of all ages at her ballet school, Joan Kohal Studio of Ballet in Toronto. She went on to influence and inspire other dancers teaching and choreographing at Dancers Studio in Midland. Jodi spent many years at her beloved Georgian Bay, playing on the beach with her grandchildren and tending to her beautiful gardens. In recent years, Jodi and Peter moved to Barrie where they enjoyed a rich social life living at the Nautica. Jodi was a vibrant personality, described by many as an elegant woman who was incredibly positive, honest and direct, but above all else, inspiring.

I have so many fond memories of being one of Joan's students at her amazing studio in Toronto. She was such a positive influence on me- Always encouraging, thoughtful, honest and the epitome of grace and elegance. I didn't end up being a ballet dancer but as a working actress, I carried and still carry her influence with me all the time. She was truly a beautiful inspiring muse. She will be sorely missed. Dance with Angels now! My heart goes out to her family and friends.

We were very sad to hear of Jodi's passing and sadder still that we won't share any more chats at the beach where we met watching sunsets. We loved her energy, her laugh and honesty.
Wojtek and I would like to extend our sincerest sympathies to all of Jodi's family.
