Joan SEE Obituary

SEE, Joan Eleanor 1932 - 2022 Joan Eleanor See (nee Smith), in her 90th year, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2022, with her family by her side. Joan will be greatly missed by the love of her life and devoted husband of over 66 years, Donald. Loving mother to John (Bryn) and Donna (David). Cherished Grammy to Jamie (Brian), Joshua (Caitlin), Kayla, Samuel (Andreea), and Kelsey. Proud Great-Grammy to Nolan and Emmett. Joan was predeceased by her parents, Gordon and Grace Smith, and younger brother, Bruce. Joan lived a very fulfilled and passionate life. From spending summers at the cottage with family, to living in Calgary trading horses and skiing the mountains, then moving to Ottawa, taking great joy in golfing at Cedarhill Golf Club. Becoming a devoted CFL fan, attending the Calgary Stampeders games, Joan's love of football continued with season tickets to the Ottawa Roughriders. Joan even experienced a Grey Cup game with her home team winning. Always a fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs. After a move back to Toronto, Joan continued to be a vibrant member of her community. As one of the original members of Cathedral Bluffs Yacht Club, Joan spent countless hours working around the club, crafting it for decades of enjoyment. Learning to sail as Don's First Mate, Joan enjoyed years of adventure on their beloved sailboats, Seerenity I and II, acquiring lifelong friends along the way. A move to Lagoon City on Lake Simcoe thirteen years ago allowed Joan to continue her passion for bringing the community together, becoming involved with the local Social Committee. As a natural extrovert, Joan attracted a circle of special friends that she held very dear. Joan was a brilliant mind with unparalleled resilience. She lived with Diabetes for over 43 years and made it her purpose to support and educate those who suffered from the same health condition. Having spent over 15 years, first volunteering and then working, at North York General Hospital Diabetic Education Centre, Joan was able to share her intricate knowledge and personal experiences to help others live their lives to the fullest. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the funeral service will be family only. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. If desired, donations to Diabetes Canada would be sincerely appreciated in Joan's memory.

Dear Don, I'm sorry to hear of Joan's passing. She lived a long and busy life in spite of her diabetes. I worked with her at NYGH and whenever we got together, she would bring me up to date on the See family activities.
My condolences to you and the family.
