SLAMEN, JOAN April 18, 1932 – November 9, 2022 Joan was finally released from all her pain on Wednesday, November 9th, surrounded by family and her loving partner, Louise Fast, with whom she shared 46 wonderful years. She is now resting with her family and friends who left us before her. Joan will be forever missed by her children, Anne Slamen McCann (Martin), Kevin Slamen (Jennifer), Shelagh Tustin (Walter), Elizabeth Trivanovic (Cedomir). Beloved grandmother to Alexander, Christopher, Danielle, Eric, Leah, Mark, Michael (resting in peace), Nicole, and Nikolas. Cherished great-grandmother to Calie, Sofia, and Lucas. Brothers, Brian and Gerard Paton (both resting in peace) and sister, Frances Pilkey, who lives in Surrey, BC. Joan Slamen (nee Paton), born in Manchester, England, April 18, 1932. One of her proud achievements was completing her formal 7-year. Apprenticeship as a professional baker before leaving England in 1956 for Canada. Eldest daughter, Anne, was born in England and her other 3 children (Kevin, Shelagh and Elizabeth) were born in Toronto. Spanning her 40-plus year working career in Canada, Joan was a baker, a library technician and a receptionist. Joan had a tremendous love of reading and the over 300 volumes in her library are a testament to that love. Joan also enjoyed travelling, especially cruising. She recently told a friend that she got to visit all the places she wanted to see. Visitation will be held at the Church of the Redeemer, 162 Bloor St. W., Toronto, ON, on Saturday, November 12, 2022, from 10–11 a.m. until time of Service at 11 a.m. A private interment will follow at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Dear Anne, Marty and Slamen Family,

We are sorry to hear that your beloved mother has passed away. We hope she had a peaceful end to her life. From her obituary, it is clear that she lived a full and happy life pursuing her passions and that she shared loving relationships with her family and friends. Hers was a life well spent. To Louise and all of the other members of Joan's family,

My heartfelt condolences to all of you. I was one of the lucky artists at the DBWA where Joan was a 'day one' member. Joan inspired all of us. It was clear she was a titan of a person, with an extraordinary depth and breadth of intelligence, great wit, huge resilience and inner strength. She was a great leader in our community, role modelling strength, vulnerability, creativity, soul. She made all of us want to be our best selves. Orchids, Brandy Alexanders, gorgeously decorated cakes, stories of loss and resilience, the first flowers coming up through the snow ..all of these will, for me, be forever coloured by Joan. xox Robin
